TV Nerds - Help Please

Featured Replies

Stu, I have a samsung 40" and when turning on and off it has always had a notable relay click, recently when switching on the TV it used to take 5-10 seconds after pushing the button for it to switch on, now it has turned to 15-20 seconds and I can hear the relays clicking away a couple of times, its almost like it has a couple of failled attempts to startup.

Does this sound like any of the issues you were having? fingers crossed, i think I have 10 months warranty remaining.

Doesn't sound like the problem I had, ours would 'click' out of the blue and of it's own free will whilst turned off. If you think you have an issue I'd get on it ASAP as we had a couple of the power boards changed and they look mighty expensive.

Stu, Similar sounding problem here, my samsung 40 has a clicking relay that just cycles when i try to turn the telly on, it did take about 5-10 seconds after hitting the button to turn on but now its anywhere upto 45 minutes, saying that I think its given up the ghost all together now, as I sit here its still clicking away with no sign of life.

Fortunatly I took out the extended warranty and the repair crowd are coming out tomorrow to fix it, on the parts list they are bringing includes:

PCB MISC-DTV MOLE32R73BDX/XEU

IR BOARD BORDEAUX1CT5000-4140

MAIN PCB(INC TUNER)***FPPNLA***

Any of those sound familiar to you? I'd hate to have on-going issues with it like you had with your old one.

Kinda hoping they write the telly off TBH, I wonder if leaving 20quid taped to the screen would help

I'm a mentalist, forgot i posted the first one, must have been drunk!!!

I don't know what any of the part numbers were, it was just a great big PCB centrally mounted from the rear.

FPPNLA stands for:

Flat Panel - Part No Longer Available

...your TechGuy won't be coming with a Main PCB INC Tuner.

ROFL - Probably used the last few in my old telly!

Maybe cinders will be going to the ball - or at least TV shopping anyway.

Result, the telly needed a PSU which they say cannot be sourced within their 21 day policy so they are writing the TV off and sending out vouchers for an equivalent model, I guess this might be the next bunfight, what is the equivalent model and will they compensate me for at least the remaining extended warranty.

I called them to confirm the value so I could start hunting for a new telly, but the write off team have not contacted the valuation team to confirm the write off (Even though I got a letter through the post in that time ) so from mon-tues they recon it will be 7-10 days before I get the vouchers, dont they know the last weekend of the six nations is next weekend

Do they take broken telly away with them??.. not worth hittin the 'bay to look for the correct part? :D

I thought of that, They sent two packing labels for the telly, one to stick to the back and one to give to the collection company to stick on the wrapping :( they come to pick it up on the 4th April.

suppose so to stop people tryin it on lol.

personally im waitin for the reviews of the new sony W5500 before pulling the trigger. technically it should be better than the 4500 but you never know :p

Well, a impending flat move made me go out and buy a telly lol.. im now the proud owner of a 32" Sony V5500 series... cant fault it really, its the same as the W series but without the 100hz which im not that bothered about..

They do a 37w5500 now which looks like a good option as well.

It's got a 100hz panel and full HD like my 40w4500 but a slightly screen that I'd have preferred.

Ah well :)

aye.. even the 32" are fullHD too!.

Just need to get a decent method of playing MKV's on it now.. the eggbox doesnt support it :(

theres lots of pointless features on these TVs lol, picture viewer that can show a map of where it was taken if it has the GPS data included.. the dlna stuff now plays video but only supports straight mpg2. one thing that isnt bad is its got a RSS feed reader lol.

.

Isn't there an eggbox version of this .........mkv2vob 2.4.4

Or something along those lines

Use mkv2vob to convert the files to an mpeg that your X-Box might like better.

They work on my PS3 anyway

Or if you have a PS3, there's the new Java-based on-the-fly transcoding engine so any content on a PC can be played back via the DLNA capabilities of the PS3. Being Java, it's OS-agnostic so you can run it from your Linux NAS server if you want :D

It's just like any other DLNA client I suppose, but was written specifically to support the PS3 and is tweakable for that purpose.

PS3 Media Server

Ive found a semi happy medium...

badaboom video convertor :D

It uses Nvidia CUDA to do the encoding so is pretty fast.. and its truly a 1 click solution!. it transcoded the BSG ep 20 in about 30 minutes :)

Ouch!

mkv2vob will just repackage the file in about 30 seconds.

Ouch!

Sometimes it will !!!!!

Other times it takes ages, depending what it has too do.

Generally though it's damn quicker than NoobVR's eggbox junk :rofl:

I've never had any files that take longer than that , and they are all 720p mkv files to start with and mpeg output

I normally do 1080p mkv's with h.264(I think)

Although I think it takes ages when Remuxing(whatever that is lol) I think it's sound related iirc.

I've had them take hours before now, only very rarely though, maybe 3 times out of god knows how many fillums.

Sorry for the OT. I should know better really.

After quite a long drawn out period I managed to get replacement vouchers, however they came to pick up my telly before I had the vouchers in hand, and after all the trouble I had with them I sent them packing until my cash arrived.

2 weeks later, i have a new telly and the old one still here too, I have seen the PSU i need on ebay for not too much money, and I have a tame TV engineer the question is, how long do I leave it before I start messing with the TV in the hope that the warranty company have forgotten about it?
