the results are in now boys, so exciting

i stuck to 85 on cruise all the way that i could, and she gave back 27.4 mpg.

so the wnner is gregozedobe 27.5 (MFD)

now the question is what will the mpg be on the way back, on my own with no roof box, and no suitcases:D. i reckon it'll be worse

When are you going? Will make a difference to predicted traffic levels?

OK then, anyone want to hazard a guess as to the computer indicated MPG on my car after this weekends 741 mile trip from Doncaster UK to Erfurt Germany. To help you it's a mkII Octavia 2.0 TDI Sport running on WINTER tyres 195/65/15. Route included an overnight stopover in Brugges (2nd leg 427miles), weather was dry but chilly, -2c in Doncaster, -6c Brugges, -13c crossing the edge of the Harz, -6c Efurt. Traffic was ok throughout & the #2 trip showed 12:59 engine run time, 57mph mean speed.

No prizes, due to the unique way the BBC is funded etc .... Darren

34.4 mpg/8.2 l/100..

a nice drive thru the harz if not to much snow/fog about

49.5 mpg?

Yes, the Harz is a lovely area, although it was dark by then, so we stuck to the autobahn that just goes over the edge rather than through the middle.

I'm guessing that you own a petrol or a 4x4 with your economy estimate,

so I'll let you have another guess.

There was only two of us in the car and no roof box either

cheers ... Darren

Pretty respectable mean speed at 57mph; my estimate 43.5mpg

That's the difference that the weekend truck ban makes!

my estimate 52mph

darren

ours is a diesel 4x4 -

second guess and a clear run on the autobahn 6.8 l/100 41.54 mpg

ill update my last mpg for the return trip, without the roofbox. it was around 27 and hlf(cant remember exact) but had dry empty roads and slightly heavy foot. i swear my car pulls nicer rom 100-120 mph in 6th than it does in 5th though

only on the autobahn of course officer!:cop:

Ja naturlich .... it's what they were made for.

Although I wouldn't trust the salt to work fully at -13c,

so it's best to keep the speed down in these conditions.

Anyway on to the big mpg reveal .....

drum roll please ....

computer says .... 55.0mpg

cheers ... Darren

dont you worry bout that i wouldnt dream of driving that speed at minus 13, especially with sumer tyres.

it was still about 6-10 degrees then.

Glad to hear it,

There's certainly some drivers about who thínk they're invincible.

Would you believe they often seem to drive cars beginning with A, B, P & MB?

We were out in SWMBO's C3 yesterday when a 911 went past (legally) at 250kmh? There was a "woof" of turbulance in it's wake.

The snow stacked at the side of the autobahn was whipped up by it too.

I assume that any "bei Nasse" (when wet) restrictions apply in icy conditions too?

tchüss ... Darren

lol, that is so true. some think that just because they have winter tyres on that they can still drive as if it were dry.
