Fuel Filler Cover Door

Featured Replies

Anybody know where to get one, and approximate price, what is needed (I am guessing the whole black filler surround, plus the door plus painting) and how you replace it.

Went to fill up with fuel last night and while it was pretty cold I didn't expect the plastic to just break :(

Thanks

I'd suspect it's going to be a dealer part Mark.

I'm waiting for them to get back on a price and will be having a nosey around the breakers.

Don't suppose you know anyone who has access to ETKA ;) who would be able to say which part it is that will be changed (eg can you do just the door) or is it the whole lot?

Ta

It's one part which has recently been revised - expect the revised part to be £40 to £50 (The older was cheaper)

Do you know what the change was?

Possibly to stop the sticking I hope.

Do you know what the change was?

No I'm afriad the crystals aren't working today

IIRC these are complete with the black surround, and might even come pre-painted...

Listed as being 'primed'.

They come primed and cost just shy of £38 + VAT then add painting and fitting.

Depending on how much of a pain it is to fit I'll either DIY or pay the garage to deal with it all in one go.

Not what I needed at all and I have to say what utterly cr*p plastic that it got so brittle in the cold :(

You must have used some force to snap it though Mark??

As for fitting, its one Torx screw I think, and absolute doddle. Getting it sprayed wouldn't be more than £20 or so for a cash job at a friendly bodyshop. Might be prudent to get any other bits touched up if needed??

No force at all Tom.

I'm wondering if somebody had a go at it or something, but the thing snapped clean at the hinges and the lid into 3 pieces when i pushed it back closed under it's own force

Does seem strange that, someone been at it with the liquid nitrogen

So question is do I fit it then get it sprayed or get it sprayed then fit it.

Painted first IMHO

Painted first IMHO

Definitely.

You have to be careful about extremities getting brittle when cold. ;) I better watch out when I refuel tonight.

I thought paint it then fit it, but the dealer said paint it after fitting because you won't get an exact match.

Right, Will get on ordered and speak to Stuart_J's man who can about painting it up.

paint it first if I were you, otherwise you risk the chance of overspray

Filler on order so just wait for it to come and then pass it on to get the work done.

Hello

Apart from approaching a Skoda dealership, my suggestion would be scour the breakers yard, even try the internet. The part/s seems to be the same on all types of Fabia. As to spraying, knowing what exact colour your car is, you could try the likes of "Halfords" or such the like?

Fitted.

Somebody had had a go at it as there are what look like screwdriver marks around the area the solenoid area.

Just need to get a replacement solenoid sleeve to replace the one that has been damaged and the stickers and the job is a good one :)
