Is it just mine...or do these cars not tell you when your lights are left on by playing a audiable note?

It's just yours :P

Mines definately has a warning tone if you leave the lights on

Ross

so does mine

Mine sings to!

are you deaf? that could be the problem...

Mine used to but has recently stopped working, along with the interior light (only when the drivers door is open) and the fuel pump pre-primer, so it looks like the door lock micro switches are shot and I'll have to change the mechanism (common fault).

last time i leave my lights on is it hard to fit?

Any one got instructions/part no.?

it's a feature of the dash and can be turned on and off through diagnostic (Vagcom for example) IIRC

Dont think the gong can be turned off, could be wrong but not on something as early as an Octy1.

The gong should work if you leave the lights on, open the door and take the keys out.

Does the headunit go off you take the keys out of the ignition.

Dont think the gong can be turned off, could be wrong but not on something as early as an Octy1.

I could be mistaken in that case, I just seem to remember that being one of the coding features when I replaced the dash cluster in mine..

*edit* ah.. just found what I was looking for - dash coding values and features:

  • +01 = Brakepad Warning active
  • +02 = Seatbelt Warning active
  • +04 = Washer Fluid Warning active
  • +08 = Warning Light "Lamp Diagnoses" active
  • +16 = Warning Light "Door(s) open" active

so looks like Lummox is correct, I think I was probably remembering "Doors open" feature.. and it appears to be for the light, not the gong DOH.

Yeah sounds like it could be the micro switch in the lock mechanism.

New lock is about £80 and looks a bit of a mission to fit. Never tried it though....

Mine has started working since I drenched it with WD40!

wheres it located how do you access it?

The switch is part of the lock mechanism on the door.

Obviously you can see it, and lubricate it while the door is open, but to remove it the door card etc will have to come away.

I'm sure a Haynes manual or a thread on here will show you how to replace it.

Try some WD40 in the mechanism first, it might cure it for a while...
