The old tyre chestnut

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've searched but can't find a lot of info. I'm looking for first hand experience if possible of Yokohama Advan Sports. I need to replace three of the tyres on my '02 vRS and so I'm gonna get all four so I can move to 225/45/17 from stock, as they're substancially cheaper and there's more choice.

My local guy who I got Michelin Pilot Exaltos from for my Golf last time around says that both the Michelins and Eagle F1s are looking at the wrong side of £430. However, they are a premium Yoko dealer and he can offer me four Advan Sports (he says they're in the same league as the Pilot Sports) for £350 on offer for Christmas.

Money is an issue, because my £210 tax (thanks Mr. Brown) and MOT are also out this month. Anyone had these before or wanna weigh in?

Thanks.

Try the Falken 452 225/45/17, great tyre for the money better than some leading brands twice the price, and can get all 4 replaced for £260 or better if you shop around.

Have you tried looking at 205/40/17's i've been looking for new tyres too and found these to be even cheaper had a look on online and found 4 nankang ns 2's for £150 Not sure what peoples view is on nankangs but for £150 for 4, a worn or punctured tyre does seem so painful !!

dont go 40 mate as it will throw ur speedo out a bit.

45 sill too but not as much and the ride wont be as nice wi the 40.

I cant give any advice on tyres soz as I went 18" soon as my std contisport rubber was out.

Ive just has 4 new falken 452 tyres fitted 205 50 17 to replace the shocking pirellis (in wet anyway) that were on before. Even though ive done only 50 miles they grip a lot better and less road nosie too. All 4 fitted were £290

I've had the Yokohama AVS Sports on my old Octi vRS and rate them quite highly. The big downside with them though was cold/damp/wet weather as you couldn't get the heat in them to work that well, however they did last over 20k without swapping front to back. For out right performance they are nice tyres and would buy them again should I have a need to.

tyres are all that keep you in contact with the road! they are the pinnacle of any tuning/handling mods you do. personally I think an extra £100 quid on all four isnt a lot to pay.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys. Turns out that even £350 is too much really with my current situation. Especially with the price of those Proxes.

Awol, I agree, but if you geniunely don't have the £100 and your credit card is approaching the limit - whatcha gonna do?

Gonna order up the Toyos AND get my tax AND mot. Ideal.

Wont go wrong with the toyos, brilliant tyre.

What about Kumho Ecsta Sports?

Auto Express did a good test here:

Tyre test | Total Tyre Guide | Products | Auto Express

Kumho's did brilliantly on wet and dry braking, wet handling, noise, and came about average in the other categories. They came bottom on aquaplaning though so just avoid puddles

What did they say about wear rates as mine have only been on 3 months and are near enough ****ed:(

I have Falken's fitted on my car and although they are good the outer tread on both front tyres has all but vanished. AFAIK they are still legal though as the remainder of the tread is fine.

try pumpin ur tires up. If the outside edges are worn ur running low pressure and if the centre is wearing more than the outside then you runnin too high.

just if you didnt know. lol
