Fabia headlight brightness 'issue' with other drivers?

Featured Replies

:) Keep meaning to post this observation:

When driving at night, mostly on rural roads with no street lights, I find a lot of

oncoming vehicles flash/hold on their full beam, seemingly in annoyance that

I have left on my full beam? (even though I haven't)

My headlights are standard vRS ones, nothing special, and they are adjusted

to the lowest angle (number 3 setting)

I'd estimate as many as maybe 10% or 15% of oncoming vehicles do it on dark country

lanes. Do any others experience this? Does anything need checking?

Cheers:thumbup:

Have you had the car from new? And are the bulbs uprated? Any Suspension changes?

I get this on occasion but mine are set to the highest, the lowest is really just there for when you have a load in the back or are towing which would bring your nose up a bit.

Thanks, had car for a year and a bit, Skoda had it from new previously.

Bulbs are standard, as is suspension. As far as I am aware.

Could be an issue (yet again:mad:) with the re-fit they did, I'm assuming

they removed/re-fitted headlight assembly when doing this:confused:

Cheers

 Thanks for that Yegnold, (you posted as I wrote my previous reply)

that's put my mind at rest as what you described on your linked thread

is exactly as I am experiencing.

All said it could be the beam needs adjusting (in which case using the switch to lower them will not do much). This was a problem on my car.

Quick way to find out, go to MOT place and get them to check. On the non Xenon version the adjustment is just by screws anyway, and very easy to do.

Should be able to use the zero setting unless the car is loaded with passengers or things in the boot

Have the same issue. Had car from new (4 years). Get people flashing from time to time, was most apparent when new, maybe reflectors/bulbs have dimmed a bit since then.

They are quite bright when you look at then, the offside seems to give a fair bit of light to towards oncoming drivers. It's had 2 MOT's so I would have expected any headlight misalignment would be picked up by now...

I get this a bit as well and have noticed that most of the people doing it must be blind f*ckers 99% of them are heading towards you with the fog lamps blazing!!!

I have std. lamps with the washers on and do always keep mine clean and they are correctly aligned. I have read lots of threads on here about uprating lights and while I would admit that there is always room for improvement, I think they are very good as long as you clean them and I live in the sticks where most of the roads resemble sheep tracks.

Beam aim is correctly aligned.

Yep... Fabia headlights are a fairly old design (reflector with no glare guard - dont get that much nowadays) however they do a pretty good job at throwing light on the road

Had the same problem with mine so I adjusted them using the tilt to setting 1, no problem after that but the MOT station always used to set them back to normal.

After I,ve had the suspension lowered by 30mm & changed to Philips Xtreme bulbs the has been no flashing by oncoming vehicles even on the normal setting.

Have people flashing me in my 4 year old (had since new, standard bulbs) SDi saloon so was a bit worried about the MOT last month but no problems so must be set right.Never had it happen in last Fabia,1.6 16 valve saloon

I get it all the time. Thanks for the post you/ve just reminded me i need to take it to the garage to get the beam setting looked at.

Cheers.
