Lack of power

Featured Replies

Nowthen my MK1 octavia VRS is driving me mad. Its fitted with a jabba sport chip which iam sure are a quality brand? However with the chip the power should be 190-200bhp ish? But it feels flat, feels about 150ish? There is never any fault codes and i have replaced the air mass/flow meter and the boost control valve (n75j) with no results! Can any one help?

Thanks in advance

first i would get it on some rollers to get a rough figure of bhp and thy can check boost afr etc etc should only cost about £40 notes to get it rolled....

if jabba did the chip im sure they will look at this as it is there product give them a call.

Is this lack of power all the time?

What happens if you start the car in the morning then drive up the road for 5 mins pull over turn the engine off then start up and then drive away again? (You will need to try this)

Its all the time and i have tryed the stoping it and stating it thing make no real difference the chip was fitted by the previous owner a few years ago by jabba i do have a boost gauge fitted (a quality one) and its making about 1.3/1.4 bar peak and holds 1.2 bar which should be about right?

Yes that's the correct boost.

I guess then the next thing to do would be to get the car on the RR and see if there are any running issues?

ive tryed the stopping it starting it thing today because its a few months since i did it and it did make a difference? Maybe not 200bhp but a difference what does that mean?

Tomorrow or when you get a chance.

Drive the car away in the morning and see what the peak boost is then do the stop start thing and see what the boost is.

If there is a difference get back to me ;)

The boost is always same no matter how the engine is performing even on a morning not that i like to let boost till it warms up. The other thing i dont like about it is the fact when the engine RPM gets over 3000 its noisyer than it should be no nasty rattles/knocks etc just if you arnt looking at rev counter you wud think it was doing 4000rpm at 3000rpm, 5000rpm at 4000rpm etc its hard to explain but my mates 1.8t gti golf pulls much cleaner smoother and with less vibration right to the limiter? Do AUQ engines have variable cam timming??

Well it's not the same as I had then ;)

Where are you?

I still think as you don't have any error codes your best bet is a RR session

Have you tested the Maf?

You could also try a throttle body clean.

Its got a band new genuine maf on it and ive been on rolling road with it at motocope in northallerton and could only achive 163bhp and we tryed everything me an two other mechanics could think of its realy making me mad now!

That's not good :thumbdwn:

Can you post up the RR graph?
