Rear Brakes

Featured Replies

only had my car for 2 weeks but ive noticed the rear pads dont seem to be making full contact with the rear discs, just before i bought it new rear pads had been fitted

ive got a band in the middle of the disc going around, rust on the inner and rust on the outer, a bit strange really

im gonna wait and see how the pads bed in over the next few hundred miles, but do you think its anything to worry about, car stops fine IMO

needs new rear discs , and soon or the new pads will be worn unevenly on the old rusty discs

my new rear discs have been on for 2 weeks now, and have developed the same band as the old ones, i was hoping the pads would have bedded to the new discs by now, basically the outer 1cm of disc isnt being touched by the pads, the pads were fitted before i bought it, shouldnt they have worn flat by now to the new discs ?.......ive applied the hand brake a few times whilst driving to try and wear them down a bit

you should only fit new disk with new pad and never new disk with old pads

the pads are only a few weeks old though, thought it would be ok

depends how much driving you do, lots of driving = lots of wear

I think it might be how you use your brakes, rather than the mileage you do! The rear brakes don't contribute an awful lot to the braking force anyway.

It seems you've done it in the wrong order BRUN, as DigitalDwarf above is right; I think you'll have to go to square one again, and fit a new set of pads to your new disks. Sorry...

grrrr i was hoping not as the pads were fitted a few weeks ago by the dealer i got the car from, however the discs were a bit **** poor and for the price i thought id replace them

bet the pads cost more than the discs did !

The rear pads don't go right to the outer edge of the discs, unlike the fronts. It's normal to have a band of rust around the edge.

just done my front pads today and the bolts holding the caliper on were a swine to get off, just so soft its unreal on a newish car. Gald they are done, although they will be a bit spongy for a while till they bed in :S

neily how come nobody else has mentioned it though ... Surely with the amount of replies ive had everyone would have just said theirs is the same

Mine aren't like that, and they do need changing soon. Where did you buy yours from BRUN?

discs are OE, pads were fitted before i bought it, they are Bosch pads

My rears have a small band of rust around the outer edge too, like yours, about a 1cm band all the way round. It's not worried me, i just figured it was the norm....... :rubchin:

so this is normal ???

that band looks a bit too big for my liking

but if your old disks were badly coroded on the outer rim it will have removed a significant amount of material from the pad

then putting that same pad on a new disk means there is the same band now not being touched by the worn pad

ps excuse the spelling as i have dyslexia and it get worse as i get tired

and i havent reinstalled my spellchecker

both my front and rear disks have a small rust lip around the outside, probably about 1-2 mm. Will need replacing soon but my pads have loads left so not worrying too much atm.

Sorry but the rust marks on yours do not look normal mate. The pads should be making more contact than that

do the pads on the rear have wear indicators or not ?

do the pads on the rear have wear indicators or not ?

Not

The rear brakes do very little when moving so it will take ages for any bedding in to get rid of the line. Drive a bit with the HB on to see if it goes.
