In a word, no.

Note that if you change to the MP3 stream, you will have to relocate one of the pins on the connector as they changed the position of the Ground for the CD changer.

If you don't do it, playing from the CD changer will sound very distorted and quiet (if it works at all). 5 minute job though, so nothing to worry about.

You are changing the head unit so that really isn't going to make the changer MP3 compatible. You'd need a new changer as well.

I wasn't sure whether the HU read the CDs in the changer as data or if it was just an audio signal. If it was data then it would be perfectly feasible for the changer to read MP3 CDs. Thinking about it logically it was unlikely but I thought I'd ask.

Why don't you just get a Dension Gateway 100? Going to be a lot cheeper about £80 and gives all the control of MP3 cd from head but you plug in your ipod (1000's of songs:) )

Even Skoda list Dension Gateway 100 in there accessories catalogue!

I've just done that very same swap - better sound quality from the MP3 unit in my opinion and not as expensive as you may think. I paid £60 for mine in the end whereas there's been one on eBay (and NOT selling!) for £175 for ages - need to be patient.

10 minute job to install, as pointed out above don't forget to swap the pin on the quadlock connector - I used the diagram on VRStu's site (linked from his sig) to do mine.

I think Dension will be the way I go eventually but any improvement in sound quality is welcome as I think the Stream sounds tosh to be honest.

The stream MP3 has a better amplifier than the original stream because you get more control over the sound stage.

Another HU to consider is the audience, with this you lose the use of the external CD changer. However this HU can play six discs of MP3 music from its own internal changer.

No, its the same because it uses the same amplifier for sound (unless you have the 12 speaker sound pack). They are both however streets ahead in the sound quality department of the early stream HU.

Done the mod yet ? - done both the fronts and rears on my car now - costs pence for some capacitors & a bit of time - big improvement on sound for very little cost or hassle.

I changed my Stream for a Stream MP3, and the difference in quality is far better than I expected

I've just been having a look at these on eBay. They all state that a code will be required. So what I'd like to know is, if I buy one off eBay, how do I get the code for it?

Make sure you have a reciept for the radio and then take it to your dealer with your chassis number and the number off of the radio which begins SKZ.

Mine came with a code as advertised - general opinion seems to be that even if you get a code you need to go to the dealers as Stu says - for whatever reason the one I bought worked fine without needing a trip to the dealer.
