wiper, blower, turn signal fault

Featured Replies

Hi there and happy Christmas

Stuck here with no wipers, indicators or blower, all failed at the same time, fuses are good and hazards still work, what is the link, relay or earth. Any help would be greatly appreciated, no garages open for a few days and need to travel tomorrow. 2002 Octavia elegance TDi.

can u get vag-com onto it? Possible earthing fault maybe. I don't have my Haynes manual to hand :-(

Got the software but I don’t have the vag com cables yet, are the ones on ebay any good, I should have a look at the grounding points anybody know where these are, Got to do the Christmas tour today, will have to use the other car. I will be off line for the rest of the week but any other help would be greatly appreciated as the problem will be here when I get back.

Cheers

I have a cheapo serial and a cheapo USB cable, both sourced from Ebay and they seem to be fine (on my 2001 TDi Estate), but don't take that as a promise that all cables will work!

I'll have a look inthe back of mine (at parents currently) and see if I have the Haynes manual.

IIRC, these items share the same earth point which is located next to the steering column. Look for a domed nut (assuming it is still there) with brown wires leading to it.

Sorry for the delay, back after the hols now, cannot see the dome nut, earth point, any pics would be great. I have checked the fuse holder with a meter, get no voltage across the pins when the wiper is in the on position, but do get ground on the left hand pin. When I check known good fuse points I get 14V across the pins when the particular unit is switched on. Does this mean that I have a good earth put no power on the circuit. Is there any relays worth changing out, thinking the wiper relay may be at fault or is there any other master fuses that could be out, checked the ones on the battery and these are OK.

Just to add, found the earth point, looks sound. Also located the wiper relay 377 and took it apart, cleaned the two contacts but still no joy, Any further suggestion would be appreciated greatly as all the local mechanics are on holidays,

thanks

Just thinking. all the functions that are not working are disabled when the ignition is off. On VWs there is a load relief relay, does any one know which relay this is on an Octavia and what’s its location .

thanks

For the record the fault was with relay 100, Problem solved.

Thanks for reporting back... glad you solved the problem eventually :-)
