Rear arb on an estate

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted an upgrade rear anti roll bar to an elegance estate? ...does it make a difference? is it worth it?

have had a search but can't find the answers I am looking for........don't want it too tail happy as the estate is reasonably well balanced ....but would like to get rid of a bit of understeer if possible

Has no one done this to an octavia estate

Why would you want to?

Why would you want to?

As the OP states - to decrease understeer ie to improve the handling.

Doesn't seem very good value for money to mess around with the lowest performance car. I'd flog it and get a VRS instead if I wanted better handling.

I did this once and sold it (a VRS) 3 months later  Vrs won't go where where I go so I would have to raise the suspension on it.

I too would like to know if anyone has done this, I have a 1.9TDI DSG Estate and it is one of the most understeery cars I have ever had, guess it's that heavy diesel up front. Only car Iv'e had where I cant get any lift of oversteer too. Got the standard spec Bridgestone Turanza tyres all round, are they holding things back too?

Snap!! with the turanzas anyway..they seem very good as a winter tyre ....and I have a set of 225/45/17 Vrs wheels to go on in the spring ...but it's the understeer I would like to calm down a bit and I reckon a larger ARB will do the trick ....may have to contact JKM at some point for their input

I have a Neuspeed Rear ARB for a vRS that you're welcome to try.;)

Not sure if the hatch one will fit an Estate but it's worth a try.....I'll see if Ross is around he would know and get back to you.

Thanks for the offer Ian

Let us know how you get on Rob, I will keep an eye on this thread.

A TDI VRS dosen't mean better handling....... :(

Would also be intrested to see how you get on Rob

Yes, Fluffmeister did a while back, well to an Elegance hatch (not Estate).
does it make a difference?
YES.
is it worth it?
Definitely, and pretty good value too.

Fitting a rear anti roll bar (ARB) to a car without one, or an uprated rear arb to one with, is probably the most effective way to neutralise understeer and improve turn-in on the car, particularly a fwd one with a heavier front end e.g. a TDI; ask any Fabia vRS owner who has fitted a JabbaSport rear arb to their car.

I have an uprate Neuspeed rear arb on my vRS TDI and it helps quite nicely. Fitted to an Elegance Estate it will, I'm sure, help with neutralising the understeer but am not sure about creating (undesireable) lift-off oversteer.

Have a look at these threads for some further info;-

It is the very same one that I have sat in my garage.;)

Rob. PM me a contact number and we can work something out.

One comment for the Neuspeed arb (and probably any other 'aftermarket' one) is that the fitting instructions require you to grease the bushes before fitting and annually thereafter.

I have found that mine need regreasing every 9 months/13,000 miles; that is at least with Neuspeed's OE supplied grease; I have just a few days ago regreased with some Slick 50 grease and will have to wait and see if this lasts longer.

What are the symptoms if you don't grease then? Creaking? And if so, why don't the OEM ARBs make a noise?

most noticeable symptom is a squeak/screech when the rear of the car squats down sharply i.e. when dropping off a speed hump.

And if so, why don't the OEM ARBs make a noise?

Different, more flexible, design of bush.

Quick tip; grease the bushes liberally with quality grease when fitting.

It came with a tube of grease so that will be going on

Make that IN mate, not ON, if you know what I say :)

Pretty sure Ian mentioned it Rob but you need a splined tool to undo the fittings, not a torx.
