Furious - Replacement Casing Drivers Side Mirror

Featured Replies

Well cutting a long story short i pulled over to give way to somebody coming towards me this evening they went fine past and some utter **** comes tearing through doing 40-50 and hits my drivers side mirror.

The morron then pulls over, waits until i've gotten out of the car and legs it :( so so angry.

The mirror itself is in tact although disconnected from the electric mechanism, the mech itself appears to functioning okay so it should just be a case of clipping the mirror back into the mech...... problem being the top half of the mirror surround is cracked right the way down to the bottom.

It looks like its a seperate part but i presume i'm going to have to order it and get it sprayed?

Where is best to get the part? Can they be pre-painted or is this something that needs to be done afterwards?

They are fairly cheap, as they can be bought separately, but have to be painted.

If a dealer were to paint it, they would charge the earth.

IIRC the fabia casing is about 15 quid, I would have thought the Octavia would be something similar.

did you get his number?

No that's what i'm most bothered about :( so angry at myself for not grabbing it in time. Sodding 4x4 behind just wanted to get past as quickly as possible and wouldn't wait for me to get out so i missed him :( So so annoyed.

Trust there to be a bend for him to have escaped around right where he had hit me.

Should be thankful it it wasn't worst if he had been a few cm further over it would have been a very nasty smash.

Anyone have good references for body work places? Perhaps somewhere that will paint the part up for me? Presume black magic isn't too uncommon?

Can get a whole new OEM unit for £40 or less on ebay, it will come ready for spray painting.

£7.50 I bought one the other day from ebay, primered and ready to spray. If you do it in the warm and carefully (and lacquer a day later in light coats if metallic) you'll get away with 2 halfords spray cans.
