VAG COM Issues/Queries

Featured Replies

Evening All

I hoping you can help me. I've just purchased the following VAG COM unit for the Octavia - it's a 1U chassis R reg 1.8 Petrol.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=110300638525

It's connected to the to the computer, drivers are fine, by the book not from Ross Tech's website, when I plug it in the light on the plug glows, I have found that it's running on COM 3, but when I perform Auto Scan it fails to find anything at all. I know that there is at least one fault because the ABS light is on!

I am beginning to wonder if this is the right cable, if it works with this model, and for that matter what 'protocol' this model uses - if anyonecan shed any light I'd appreciate it, I can provide screen shot's if helpful, need to make them smaller first!

Regards

Tom

What windows are you running, these don't like Vista! Haven't got round to playing with mine to see if it will run in vista using the 'run as if XP' setting

Daft question, but have you got the cars ignition on?

Oh and welcome to the forums

Try the 'test interface' option.

Just a thought in the dark .

One question for the computer whizes- do you have to set the com port and IRQ to get it to see the ecu.(had similar problem on comms equip - turned out laptop was set com3,diag prog was set com1 +IRQ for com 1.had to changecom port and IRQ to get it to work)

409.1 doesn't have autoscan I thought?

What happens when you just simply try to go into the engine section, does it log in?

What happens when you press the 'test interface' button? You may need to tick 'force dumb interface'

Greg.

I assume your running the shareware version and you can't do an autoscan unless it is the registered version. apart from that try what Greg123 says, I needed to tick the force dumb interface box to make it work.

Does it give you any error messages at all when it tries to scan or go into one of the modules? Are you getting a message about unknown protocol by any chance? If so try doing it with the engine running rather than jut having the ignition on.

Good point about turning the ignition on too, I keep forgetting to do it.

i run the latest vag com on vista with no problems.

If the drivers are creating a com port then it's virtualizing a serial port via usb.

Good luck with that, as stuff like this at that price do not alway work... as your finding out. Best bet is to get the proper cable.

also with aproper cable (from ross tech) you will get free updates and technical help.
