Thermostat location Octavia 1.8 20v

Featured Replies

Hi, would like small advise on how to change thermostate on my Octavia 1.8L 20v engine. Have been looking all over the engine but cannot find this thermostate. The cooling system seem to contain alot of tubes with strange sensors and cables but no place for thermostat...

Thx for advice!

As you look at the engine, from the front of the car, the thermostat housing is tucked in just to the right of the alternator. There is a plate just in front of the inlet manifold which is needs to be disconnected and moved to one side. Also the pipes from the secondary air pump need to be disconnected and moved out of the way. The haynes manual says to remove the auxilary drive belt so that the alternator can be moved but I found that this wasn't necessary, I just removed a small bracket from the side of the alternator so that I could move it's wire out of the way which then left me free to acess the 2 bolts holding the thermostat housing on. It's a bit of a mission to do, but not too hard once your in.

Hope this helps.
