I did it. I did it!!! (Girly triumph moment)

Featured Replies

I changed the stereo over in my car!! :goodvibe: I sliced two of my fingers on a bit of wire, broke three nails, and it's not quite all the way in but the darn thing plays, and it plays LOUD!!!!!:thumbup:

Ok, basically my ex used to do anything that needed doing to our cars - if he couldn't do it, then it went to a garage. So he installed this stereo, and despite me peeking over his shoulder, etc it always seemed a very mysterious undertaking with all the wires, etc. :irked:

But this afternoon, I sent the kids off to the library, opened up both cars and set to work! I googled 'removing car stereo' and watched a video on removing a DINN with keys, then realised the stereo was an after market one and I had been trying to pull out the case :o:O Once I applied a little brute force, out it popped along with several snakes' worth of wires.

Into "Cutie" and managed to get the Skoda stereo out with very little hassle. But putting mine in - OMFG!! I was lying with half of my body out of the car, twisted like a pretzel, swearing like a trooper (in fact, I sounded very like my ex husband  ) The girls came back from the library and took one look at what I was doing and decided to leave Mummy to it

The moment I pressed the "on" button and music came out of the speakers was a pretty darn cool one I can tell ya - I actually stood and bowed to my invisible audience!! :P:P

So as I said, it's peeking out a bit more than it should but I'm not sure if there are too many wires behind it so there's no room for it to slide back any more?? It doesn't obscure anything - can still open the ashtray, etc and it's actually in the right position for flicking songs where it is. Might ask a friend to have a look at it, but am well chuffed with myself

Minor issue - just been to Asda, and "Cutie" kept cutting out. When idling, the revs were bouncing up and down, and it cut out twice. Also, whilst reversing into the parking space, it cut out again. Could the battery be on the way out, or does it just need a journey longer than 15 minutes to give it a chance to juice up?? :really: Thanks for putting up with my girly triumph moment! :D

Sorry for being impolite... are you male or female? :D

I used to have the standard speakers and radio at the beginnig of my felicia time... they were crap. now i have Blaupunkt speakers 13 cm in door boards and 2 16 cm in hat-rack. now i'm enjoying the music in good quality. i have a pioneer head unit (DEH 2900 MP)

Don't know about Felicias but Fabias are a bitch when it comes to getting stereos in. I dread it if I need to pull mine out - partly because I only have one release key  but mainly because I can never get the damn thing back in again, there's a lump of plastic right in the way! Talk about design flaw lol!

pollwog. i think this answers your question.

My head unit is a JVC LKX551 - loud enough for me to make noise, not so loud as to deafen the offspring! And I do rather like the touch screen front it has! :P

okay now I know why you worried about so many things :D

I had to take a dremel to mine to get the HU in.

Cheeky so and so!! :P

 I haven't found them that bad - you should try putting one in an Octavia - then you would be swearing! I always found the Favorit's and the Felicia's quite easy as you can get around the back ok. The Octavia's is right in the middle of the dash! :thumbdwn:

I felt like I needed to be double-jointed to get my hands round the back, and as for shoving all the wires back in to push in the unit

Well first off a huge and mega bow in your direction! :orb_clap:

It is really nice having that feeling of "I did that and it works...!"

At least you sat down, googled what you wanted and went for it, so good on yer.

Now, without confusing things, how did you wire up the new head unit?

Did chop the old wires and mated them to the new wires or did use the original connector on the wiring straight into the new head unit?

ok, i'm officialy in love with the two girl in red felicias, one for being really nice and supportive (polliwog) and now Shiloh, for this thread, i mean, picturing everything in mi mind made me laugh a lot, it reminded me of a very special moment in my life (had a girlfriend that enjoy that "girl moment of triumph") and the part of the broken nail was a chicle but one that i always enjoy, and the bowing to the invisible audience deserves a standing ovation... i would have loved to be there,

in fact i'm not a girl :D

firstly, well done for getting this far, most folks end up getting it so the radio turns off/on when they switch on the lights

Does that mean you can't help me figure out how to get it turn on/off with the ignition?!:rofl:

it can be done but you need to perform some trickery with the wires, i wouldn' t advise trying it unless you are absolutely sure what you are doing, might be worth getting an auto electrician to do it for you.

in fact i'm not a girl :D

oh!!!... :eek:sorry tis just that the "polly" thing eluded me, but dude, you're a pall, thanks for you support

pollywogs are "babies" of frogs :D

pollywogs are "babies" of frogs :D

cool :D another work i learned from the European culture

here we call them "tapaculo" (only a tail) "renacuajos" (tail and legs) and maco or macaso (when the frog is huge)

the British would say "tadpole"... but this word doesn't sound as funny as pollywog does.

Thank you kind sir! :D No chopping - used the original connector from the skoda to the connector on the stereo - I get to talk in jargon, this is cool!

Ah but if you had been there would you have helped a damsel in distress, or left me to break yet more nails?! ;);)

Methinks am going go settle for pushing the on button as part of my 'settling into the car' routine
