Good stuff, Andrew.

Getting to play with manual exposures too

I like the standard torch flower one best as it shows the most contrast and is more interesting / mysterious IMHO.

I don't know what the D80 is like for noise, but if you're struggling to get a short enough / bright enough exposure, don't feel scared of raising the ISO to 800 or possible 1600 (again, haven't played with D80 so not sure what it's like). But bear in mind a correctly / brightly exposed picture at high ISO won't show the noise anywhere near as much as an underexposed / dark picture :)

edit: with the standard flower, did you play around with the white balance compared to the blue LED one? The colour temperature is massively different and wondered if you emphasised it by tweaking :)

Nice camera Andrew!

Try the 'Auto ISO' setting - it will adjust ISO to maintain a minimum shutter which you specify. Works well. (you can tell it whether to go up to 800 or 1600 - at 1600 the noise is a bit intrusive IMO).

I was given the Nikkor 50mm f1.8 for Christmas and it's brilliant - relatively cheap, very bright, super sharp when stopped down a bit. Was using it in a dimly lit pub for New Years' without the flash and got some pretty good results. For £80 it's an amazing value lens.

 yeah I seem to remember using one in september sometime.

Tonight I was just messing in the Kitchen with o light bar 2 torches and wanted to see what results I could get hence the manual setting, also wanted to play with some editing software, so all in all not too displeased.

Lenses :rubchin: well it is my 40th :o this yearso swmbo could well be called upon, quite fancy the 60mm micro ;)

Ken Rockwell reckons the 60mm isn't ideal for macro work - Nikon 60mm AF-S Micro

I'd be inclined to look for a 2nd hand 105 AF-D (doesn't have an autofocus motor but you've got a D80 so that isn't a problem ;) same as the 50mm f1.8) by what he says. But that's only one review.

I'm impressed. Love the dog shot.

What he said, the dog shot is very nice. Liking the others too, nice work:thumbup:

Another vote for the 50mm F1.8. I just got my hands on a copy today. For the money (£70-£80) it's brilliant and well worth having one in your bag.

Great pictures.

Great pics, very good lighting effects too

Yes I have to agree with the others.

Good work

Super

Lousy light, very noisy, and slightly under exposed :( (iso 1000, f/ 4.8, 1/1600, 75 - 240mm ) but no time to play before rain started.

Nice ones, Andy

Wondered how you'd managed them with the kit lens and then saw the '75-240mm' :D

That didn't take long did it ? I thought mortgages were hard to get these days.

The slippery slidey slope .......... :D

Got one or two lenses lying about from the SLR days ;)

Whats a mortgage

Whats a mortgage

It's the thing Mort uses to measure distance from camera :D

After spending far too much time on nikoncafe, the lens lust forum is a NO GO zone. I warn you.

I'm now resisting forking out for a 200mm f/2 VR  ...and failing

It's more expensive than modding cars :(

Cracking pics Andrew mate
