Warning Lights & VAG-COM Results

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I had my ESP warning light come on & stay on, shortly followed by the engine management light on my 51 plate Octavia 4x4 the other day. I read on this forum of similar problems which probably pointed to the MAF sensor. But rather than take a risk at buying a new one, I decided to buy a cheap VAG-COM lead with the shareware software of ebay just to diagnose the fault.

So I've done a scan and as suspected there appears to be an error in the MAF. But I'm also getting some other errors that I'm unsure about, please see below:-

Chassis Type: 1U - Skoda Octavia

Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,19,35,46,56

17608 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs

P1200 - 35-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

16487 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too High

P0103 - 35-00 - -

Address 03: ABS Brakes

Controller: 1C0 907 379 F

Component: ESP ALLRAD MK60 0104

Coding: 0023174

Shop #: WSC 31480

1 Fault Found:

01314 - Engine Control Module

013 - Check DTC Memory

Ignoring the shareware errors (which aren't real errors), I was wondering about the ABS brake error (01314), do you think this is purely related to the error with the MAF, or is there something else to this. Also the pressure drop error, (17705) which I know has been there previously from an old Skoda service scan results, is this something I should be worried about and is it easy to fix ?

In addition to this, when the scan runs, after scanning the ABS it comes up with the following error:-

"Sorry ! ..... This function requires VAG-COM to be registered and activated. Please contact the author or your distributor for an activation code"

Is this normal with the shareware software ? Any help would be appreciated on all this. This is only my 2nd ever post on this forum so I apologise for the low thanks rating, but I suppose this just goes to show how good my Skoda's been to me.

Thanks in advance

I think the ones marked with Shareware are faults but it simply displays that because it is a trial version.

When you clear the engine ones this one will probably go -

You can activate your software with a licence for $99 from Ross-Tech.

A search on the forum here should reveal answers to most of your issues.

When you do an autoscan with the shareware version it only does the first 2 controllers then stops, this is what the message about needing to register the software is on about. You need to check all the relevant controllers manually to check there aren't any other errors knocking around. Doesn't take long to do this, just eats into tea drinking time.

An error in one module an cause errors in other modules so there may be other ones in other controllers, as you will notice from reading the links in VRStu's post.

Thanks VRStu & trundlenut, for the feedback.

I wrongly assumed the other errors were purely there to encourage you to buy the license.

So it looks from faults 17705 & 17608 I have a dodgy Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249), I will do some research on this site for repairing it.

Does anyone know what fault 17353 is?

Thanks again

Its worth noting that "16487 - Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70): Signal too High" will pop up if you have a split pipe or pipe pop off, 17705 will also pop up too.

I thought it would give signal too low if the split is after the MAF as the system is drawing in unmetered air?

I still get the 17705 on mine its a PITA to try and resolve.

17705 is usually best cleared by cleaning and resetting the throttle body if all pipes are deemed secure and it good health. Check the vacuum pipes under the inlet manifold, loads on here about it.

I know because i got the high signal code when one of my pipes blew off due to me forgetting to put a jubilee clip on. I think its due to when the turbo is pulling air past the maf and there is no back pressure due to a pipe blowing off so the air increases past the maf.

Thanks All,

Well I've ordered a MAF so I will see how that goes. I know I've had the 17705 for a while now, and in the mean time I've cleaned the throttle body, which stopped all the issues I was having, so maybe it's just a question of resetting the fault error. Which I never had the opportunity to do previously becuase I didn't have VAG-COM.

I will fit the MAF, reset the other errors and see how that goes.
