Featured Replies

My 2006 Superb 130ps TDI on hard accelerating I have a large black cloud of smoke coming out the exhaust, but standed driving no smoking any ideas ?

Many Thanks

Mark

My 140BHP octavia TDI smokes like a chimney, especially in the current weather.

1. Check is that the air filter isn't clogged.

2. Check the MAF is OK.

3. If you have access to VAG-Com, I would check all the temperature sensors.

Nothing wrong mate, they all do it when pushed, you notice it even more at night in the headlight's.

Many Thanks lads for your help.

Drive slower

Mine smokes a little, MOT last week and it was -2° during smoke test, plumes of white smoke, guessung mostly moisture though. When you give the car a foot-full it does kick out a bit of the black stuff. Think it's pretty standard. Smoke particles are larger for diesels hence easier to see.

I'd counter Bluefox's advice about driving slower. If you drive faster the smoke should be dispersed over a wider area. Well worth a try anyhow.

Black smoke is 'normally' unburnt fuel going straight into the exhaust system, some diesels do this 'naturally' & therefore have no exact fault, some however this means a clogged filter etc. No harm in giving it a good old blowout & a service of the filters before checking anything more expensive.

PS: try doing 99% urban driving, it's fun when you get the chance to hit the open road, well not fun for the car behind lol.

I'd agree drive faster; black smoke is usually worst when someone who normally drives gently puts their foot down!

I'd counter Bluefox's advice about driving slower. If you drive faster the smoke should be dispersed over a wider area. Well worth a try anyhow.

Bah.
