Any way of getting the radio code without plugging in to VAS?

Featured Replies

My dealer has just told me I'll need to drive to the dealership and plug their diag computer in to get my radio code.

I'm thinking that all they'll do is get the VIN and the radio's serial number using the diag computer and then request it from Skoda (from what I've read), or is it an online process?

If it's offline then I should be able to give them the information they need and sasve myself however much it is they'll want to charge me, and the petrol.

Can anyone confirm?

Radio codes used to be offline, but I believe its now an online process. You may need to kick up a fuss, they need to plug the car in either way to get the required information from the headunit to pass onto skoda uk.

You will also need, proof of ID, the cars V5C and possibly even a purchase reciept for the radio if its a different one to the one skoda have on record.

OK thanks, it is the original radio etc. Probably going to cost me some labour time!

Last time I heard it was still on Desktop. So Chassis and SKZ number. Most dealers will say it requires VAS as they expect you not to be able to retrieve the SKZ number.

Does this mean the Maxidot is in?

Where do you stand with non-original equipment Stu? Was going to ask about this separately actually.

Have a friend with a 2002 S3, who's fitted the RNS-E satnav unit from an A6 and needs the code for it.

Cheers,

Steve

Same deal really Steve, just need ot prove ownership.

If only :P Still the same as it was, been on to Ross-Tech support and Andy asked me to do an Auto Scan and email it back, I did that around 4pm yesterday and haven't heard anything back yet. I'm hoping they get back to me tonight to be honest as I want to put the car back together and drive the bloody thing!

Just pre-empting the next problem as I can't keep on driving with no Bluetooth and without the radio there's no BT either. I'll give them another call with the SKZ and VIN and see if they'll entertain it.

It would be nice to find a dealer that understands there are people out there that know more about their cars than they do. The local Audi dealer was pretty good but one of their parts guys left and now they've moved the dealer and rationalised 4 different dealers into 1 big one so I'm going through the same old rubbish again.

if you give me your skz number and mobile number i could find out your radio code and txt it back to you by 9.00am tomorrow if that helps? ( pm me if your interested.) cheers:)

Thumbs up to fireblade for coming through with the code! Thanks very much :)

i was given the same run round and someone in the know was able to do the same as fireblade, but by the time they go back (they were on a course) i had been to the garage and kicked up a stink for them not keeping it on record (which now they have on file in case in the future they need it lol)
