Turn and emergency lights problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I do have a problem with my turn lights (Skoda Octavia 1.8 20V 1999) all has been working fine until yesterday while driving on M25 I've noticed that I don't have turning or emergency lights. I've checked the fuses - they seems to be OK. Then when I pushed the emergency triangle on the mainboard harder - emergency lights where back so I thought that the problem is solved but this morning again after driving for 10 minutes all turning and emergency lights were dead.

I've checked couple of times trying to push the emergency triangle on the mainboard slightly harder and it did turn them on for few seconds and since then nothing - no turning or emergency lights.

Any ideas what can cause this problem, it looks like the bulbs are OK (when working all flashing), fuses are OK ... but now I'm unable to make them work again ... why does it work sometimes and them just stops?

What fuses should I check ... turn lights only or some others as well?

Look forward for some advice

Many thanks

mck

More than likely to be the relay mounted behind/part of the hazard warning switch on the dash. Some people have taken theirs apart and cleaned them, and others just replaced them.

Hi Mbames,

Thank you for a quick replay

Is it difficult to remove/clean it ... how can I disassemble it from a mainboard without breaking something ?

Many thanks,

cheers,

mck

You just lever it out of the dash, then you can replace it. It's a very common problem.

Be careful not to damage the surrounding plastic though. Easier said than done!

I expect you can get one cheap online somewhere, ebay?

Not sure if I would bother buying a cheap one, they can't be that expensive from a dealer and you get it there and then, rather than having to wait for postage.

I have not had to take mine out, so I can't comment on the cleaning or even the removal process, but as Bodge says it is a common issue, so plenty of people have managed it before hand.

Many thanks for your help guys

... I've removed the cover and cleaned the switch and all seems to be working fine - I've got turn signals as well as emergency is back (Hope that for long :) )

Once again many thx

Great forum !!!

Happy New Year

Cheers,

Same thing happened to mine just before Christmas but when I took it out I realised the cable wasn't long enough to connect it back

Much huffing and puffing later I worked out (using Briskoda of course) that I just needed to unclip the stereo and that released the cable which was wedged behind it. I cleaned the contacts and everything was fine but it started going bonkers again the other day so I guess it's a new relay for me :(.

Only about £30 from Skoda garage though, unless someone knows anywhere cheaper???

Try Jorily Skoda parts, I'm sure I saw one for £17 last time I looked

That's cheap but it's the 1U0 953235 B version and not OEM. Didn't Skoda update it with an 1U0 953235 E version? Does it make any difference or will the cheap one keep going for a few years anyway?

I just bought one of these off ebay from the above, £20 and was delivered very quickly. Works fine, but the 'click' doesn't have the same quality sound :o

I did the same. I decided the part can't be that much different from the OEM part so £21 from Jorily it was. Should get it tomorrow
