sat nav disk

Featured Replies

did you get a DVD rom with your sat nav ? I had the nav installed on the hard drive but no disk. I asked the dealer and he told me skoda had told him they dont give discs out - just upload the dealers master to the hard drive.

i am sure this is wrong ? did you all get the disk ?

Yes you should.

I didn't, and got the same response as Jonathan did. Was told that SUK don't give out DVD's unless specifically asked for, as it is not needed for it for the Columbus to operate.

I got my dealer to lend me the DVD for a day, so I could copy it, then gave it back again (only wanted it to update the POI database with speed cameras)

Stu, where did you get your information from ?

it feels wrong not having the disc. its like haveing a PC and not having the windows installation disc. what if i need to reload ?

When the Columbus was first launched it was made clear in the documentation that the disk would not be supplied with the car and should be ordered seperately by the dealer. I would suggest the dealers are trying to pocket this cash.

Well.....

1) If it crashes completely you're likely to need to take it back to a dealer to fix, as it's likely to be a fried HDD, so you don;t need the disk anyway.

2) If you wanted to reload, you can't do so with the original disk anyway, as the Columbus won't install a DVD with the same ID code as what is on the hard drive currently. You'd need to install a version with a different code before reloading.

Either way, the original disk won't be of much use. That said, I see where you're coming from, not having an "install" CD is off putting (although IMO the point about windows is slightly off, as if that crashes, in my experience most users wouldn't be able to reinstall from scratch whilst retaining their settings/documents/backups etc anyway)

I have ordered the dvd from parts should be here next week, and posted out the following day.

that was quick !!

Hi JCB Glad you have finally received your car, and a great start to the New Year for you. My car was supplied with the SatNav DVD but it had to be ordered seperately from Skoda UK.

I got my disk, V3 but as most know it's way out of date, about 18 months old. Whist at the dealer today I enquired as to whether or not there was an update and there isn't yet. Though whilst there they brought one out just to try and its was still shrink wrapped. So they are not adverse to giving it out if they have it.
