Thanks go to docdlb and others for suggesting No 6 fuse. Work colleague kindly donated his old Fabia to us and it had the ABS fault light on, turns out

the fuse had gone on this one too! So that's £500-odd less to have to pay out, just needs a service and mum now has a car of her own to use.

Happy days  :sun:

(It would be interesting to find out why this fuse has become weakened enough to crack like that - I'm thinking that the car cycles the pump

for a short time at startup (bearing in mind the starting current of the pump motor would be very close to the fuse's rating), just enough to heat

the fuse and weaken it, but not enough to cause it to blow. I'm wondering if VAG underspecced that fuse, and it should've been 45-50A)

Hi. Was wondering if anyone can help. I've sent for a second hand abs pump for my mk 1 fabia vrs. In the pictures ive seen of vrs pumps the 4 pipe unions are in a straight line. On mine under the bonnet the 4 unions are at a staggered angle.even the position of the connector block is at a different angle. As far as I can tell the pump on mine is the same as engine code asy. I don't get it. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

What year and engine code is your car?  I presume you've checked the fuse that this thread suggests?

Thanks for your reply. Yes all the fuses on the battery tray are fine. The car is 2004 fab vrs. I always thought it was code asz.

Is there a sticker on top of the upper cambelt cover, as in the fourth photo in this ebay listing?  That should tell you your engine code if present.

Thanks for that. Yes there is a sticker. After cleaning it up a bit it says asz.

Another one bites the dust. The missus phoned, sounding a bit anxious, said she'd just got to her destination, then started the car again to move to a different parking spot and ABS light came on. Got her to pop the bonnet and examine the fuses above the battery. Her mate spotted the hairline crack.

Not too tricky to see when you know what you're looking for. There was a spare fuse in the car but no suitable tool to undo the nuts, so a 3 minute fix when she got home.

If anyone is still reading this thread more than a year on... Help!

I have had the ABS & TC light on same as others have described. Only have OBD2 to scan and showing no faults, although I know a VCDS would be more in depth.

I have replaced the front abs sensors, cleaned the back ones, checked the wiring in the rear of the car under the plastic trim and checked the wiring to the alternator underneath the car.

I found threads about the fuses and swapped fuses 3 and 4 having seen a diagram that number 4 is for the ABS.

Having since found this thread I have swapped fuses 5 and 6 and driven the car around half a mile but all to no avail.

Am I at the end of the process of elimination and looking at the expenses ABS module/pump!?

Any help appreciated!

Rob

(Strip) Fuse 6 on your car. Not until Nov 2005 did it become fuse 4, I think. To be doubly sure, for whoever may read later, it's the one with the red/green wire going to it.

Seems like you already eliminated that possible cause though by the swapsies.

Really needs VCDS to pinpoint what the ABS module is complaining about. One member found a fault with a rear sensor a year or two back that turned out to be corrosion of an inline wire splice under the plastic trim below the rear (side) doorway. Water ingress had got onto it and rotted it out.  May be worth a look under those two bits of plastic.

Edit: I see from re-reading your first post that you already checked for this, sorry.

Hi Wino, always forget to put details of my car! its an 07 vrs mk1, so fuse 4 it is then. I tried a fuse from Eurocarparts as I was there for some other bits anyway but it didn't fit. I am picking up 2x fuses from TPS tomorrow morning and will try those as a last ditch effort. I found the thread about the splice under the plastic trim and both sides on mine are solid.

Thank for the reply

Ah OK, I was going off your "Car: 05 Fabia VRS" in your profile. For an 07, definitely fuse 4.

Could you pop a link to it in here or PM it to me, if you can find it again; might help others (and me for future use!).

First link in this thread may help you find a local VCDS user: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com-vcp-owners/

Alternatively, buy a suitable lead for about £20 and download VCDS lite (freeware) from Ross-Tech.

Ah I really should change that!

Had a look on the local VCDS users and there's no one local enough unfortunately. I'll get these fuses tomorrow morning and keep my fingers crossed for now. Thanks again for your help.

Another thing you could try (other than VCDSing) is to continuity-test the wiring form each sensor connector back to the ABS module connector, but it would be a bit of a ball-ache as you'd have to unplug the connector from the ABS module which is quite awkward I think, then you'd need some long meter leads (very long for the rears) and an assistant.  At least by disco'ing the ABS module connector you could eyeball the connections for possible water ingress problems?

I have sweet talked a local VAG garage to squeeze me in for VCDS scan at 5pm just before they close, any excuse to leave work early! They're charging £30 which I don't know if it's a fair price or not but its a same day scan with a few hours notice, so i'll take it!

Oh that's good news. Write down any/all codes that result, ideally get a printout.

'Not a plausible signal' so seated incorrectly, wires bad or magnetic ring bad?

Would be best to start a new thread Rob, that info just took it off topic for this one, I think. :)

Hi folks, new member but I seem to have a similar issue. The car is an 02 Fabia 6Y AUB engine (1.4 16v) Same DTC  00301 ABS return flow pump and 16955 brake switch implausible signal Would these be linked? I don't know too much history on this car (friends car) But i do believe the brake switch has been changed already, and the garage had cleared the DTC's. So I am starting to scratch my head on this one.

Thanks for any help.

Has your friend checked the strip fuse?

Just been out to it (raining and cold and dark) put multimeter on the strip fuse, and no continuity! fuse looks fine but must be dead. Used a link across the fuse, ABS lamp off but EPC still on. Might have to put my vcds back on it.

Checked for non-working brake lights?

Edited by Wino

Yeah they work ok. I am wondering if there is a bad switch ( ecu signal) Used to see a lot of this on 4 wire brake switches on GM cars.

  • Sponsor

Could be. That one is Normally Closed IIRC, so should read 0 ohms with pedal unpushed.

Gets much less wear and tear electrically than the NO brake light switch as it's not switching big currents.
