Cool.  Always good to know this knowledge is helping others.

Be good for anyone who has been saved a small fortune in repairs to pay £12 for a year's freedom membership and support the site that makes this knowledge publicly available..

Another very happy person thanks to the advice here.  Daughter's 2004 Fabia 1.2  - ABS light on and code 301 on the Vgate Scan diagnostic box I'd bought. Yes another cracked 40amp strip fuse. New one fitted and light went out (I cleared the code using the box as I didn't realise it would clear after driving the Fabia for a few yards).

Good to hear, cough cough. ;)

Just came across this thread, thought I'd have a quick look due to " abs return flow" fault on the scanner. Fearing the worst and dreading the possible cost, this thread took me direct to the fault. Wondering if I went to the local garage without this knowledge how much would they potentially quote me!!!!!!!!!

Brilliant forum, thanks to everyone. MickRF

Do you have access to VCDS?  There's more tham just this battery fuse issue that can cause it.  If you have broken a wheel speed sensor wire, it will also bring on the light.  Have you changed any brakes very recently and maybe knocked a wire?

yeah i did. my error code is 012D: pump motor/engine relay

no, the last time i changed my brakes was December last year. no im afraid not.

what should i do? or should i check? because everytime i brake when the road is slippery, my car skids.

Might I also add our £700's worth of thanks,  £5 fuses fixes several hundred pound bill.

1.2 Petrol Fabia Comfort 04, failed MOT because of ABS warning.

Garage - like most on here said new ABS pump required  circa £500 plus labour.

Thanks to Briskoda, clear instructions and a couple of quid spent getting new fuse from Skoda dealer on eBay now have no ABS warning lights.

Warning light did not go off imediately fuse replaced but having driven car two years down drive and touched breaks it went off.

Again like others on here somewhat mystified as to why (although perhaps being cynical am not) the local garage did not know to replace the fuse first

thanks very much

Hi there

My Skoda Fabia 2000 1.4 was working well after I came back holiday. I drove it for 2 miles. When I started it again, it showed the ABS light on. The power steering was not working. I drove it to home with very difficulty. I thought the power steering failure may be because of low battery charge. I drove the car for half an hour just to recharge the battery. The ABS light went off, but the power steering is not working.

I took the car to garage, and they said oil is ok, and fuses checked. (But I dont know how they can do all this in 10 minutes).I was not there in the garage. (He called me, but didnt mention the error code, may be I would ask when I visit the garage to take my car).

they told me that the ABS pump may the problem, and better to take to an electrician who can change the ABS unit or check it properly.

What shall I do? Can I change any fuse to try?which fuse you suggest? how to change it?

From this forum, ABS system costs more than £1300. If I sell the car, I would get only £700. If I need to buy a new skoda, then it would cost only £1200.

Now none of the error lights are on, after starting. But the power steering is not working.

where to find an electrician to change it, if the ABS needs to be replaced? I live in Surrey, KT22.

Please give suggestions.

Thanks

If the ABS light is not showing a fault with the ABS system any more, then that is not in need of any attention.

This seems to a problem with the power steering system, possibly just caused by low battery voltage. Charge the battery by leaving the car running on your drive for half an hour. Then try driving it and see which, if any, problems remain.

If you have a multimeter, and know how to use it, measure voltage between the battery terminals while the engine is running.

Thanks very much freedom. Actually I left my car running for half an hour and drove around on local roads for half an hour extra. The ABS light was on, but I dont remember when it went off(while driving probably).

Now the ABS light is not on. But the power steering is not working. It is really difficult to turn the wheel.

I am in confusion as the garage told me that it may be because of ABS pump(he said only possibility, and suggested me to take to an electrician).

Any idea what to do, any other checks to do

Or can it cause because of temperature? Here the temperature was around 25 degree for two weeks.

Thanks

Thanks Freedom,

The garage told me the following error codes

00532

01233

01309

00906

00566

Any idea if the problem is because of any fuse error, alternator charge, or loose contact?

I got my car back from garage. He suggested to show it to an electrician.

Thanks

Look at post #7 on page 1 of this thread, there are some pictures of the strip fuses on top of the car battery.  I don't think you will find your ABS fuse broken, but you may possibly find another one is, the one that feeds the power steering pump.  I'm not sure which position of those 6 places your power steering fuse will be, so check all of them visually. If any look broken, replace.

I repeat, that I don't think there is (now) anything wrong with your ABS system, it just got upset by the low voltage that existed in your battery when you got back from holiday. Now it's OK.

This thread isn't about power steering faults, so it would be best to start your own new thread about your problem, if you don't find a blown fuse in the battery-box fuseholder.  :)

I had the same error code, google brought me here and cracked 40a fuse found as per post #7. Another happy forum member.

Hi

I got so many offers for used power steering pump with 2 or 4 months warranty. Can anyone tell me where I can find some information about the location of powersteering pump and how to change it, with some pictures if possible. Mine is skoda fabia 2000, 1.4

My friend is a mechanic, but he couldn't find it in my car!

Thanks

Passenger side wheel off and wheel arch out should do.

I removed my front bumper but i was fault finding and cleaning all the earths up etc.

I know this is an old thread, but I had exactly the same problem on my parent's Fabia. A broken 40A fusible link. I've carefully soldered it as a temporary measure, and I'll get a new one tomorrow. It looks like the link has cracked due to fatigue rather than blown due a short circuit, so I'm not concerned about it being temporarily soldered.

The first time I came across this fault I used a length of thick solder as a temporary fix, just wrapped around under the nuts! I think the owner was OCD enough to buy a proper fuse shortly afterwards, before he sold it though. :)

Literally just signed up to post this.

I`ve just bought an Ibiza, after a few days of driving the ABS light would go on and off intermittently so had it checked to get the ABS return flow pump error, a quick google search brought me here and the 40A fuse was indeed blown, you`d hardly even notice the hairline crack in it. Hopefully this solves my problem will let you know when I`ve changed it.

Finally got round to changing the fuse, upon starting the car the ABS light stayed on the dash for a while, long enough for me to start cursing what I had done as a waste of time, just as I was about to release the handbrake the ABS light went out. Will give it a good drive now and make sure it all stays off. If it wasn`t for here I would be still looking for the cause

Great site!  Had the ABS warning light on my 14 yr-old Fabia, checked fault codes (with a cheapy code reader) and got  00301 ABS Return Flow Pump. Checked this forum and was directed  from the many posts about this problem to look at the fuse F6. Took a while to find the fuses "above the battery" - only a hint in one of the posts led me to check the underside of the battery lid and thence the removeable cover! Obviously,I'm not a Skoda mechanic!  F6 clearly had a hairline crack. Replaced with a fuse from Eurocarparts  (0.79p inc.VAT!) and

now all is well - thanks to all contributors for all the great info and tips.

Minor point - the generic strip fuses I got, stated as for VW, needed a little work with a rat-tail file to enlarge the holes to allow it to fit over the threaded posts,so a slightly longer job than just a straight swop. But,hey! only 79p - what might I have been charged if I had taken the car to a dealer/garage?

Thanks again......

Probably would have been a new ABS pump / module.....
