Mk2 Octavia Vrs is now gone

Seems a shame, perhaps a bit of salesman 'razzle-dazzle'? Can imagine the scenario, salesman sees an oportunity, slagging the dodgy Skoda, spit and pollishing the 'Award Winning' and 'Bullet Proof' diesel mundy. OP in a position with his dad, as hes not happy about problems so soon after purchase. Everyone knows mondeos, etc.

Might not be the case tho.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the comments they all made me cringe.

The other issues were

1. When we went to pick the Vrs up the heater only operated on full speed.

2. O/S/F track rod thread stripped was floating about inside the metal tube.

3. Rev counter froze twice before being replaced with a new one.

4. Erratic idling wouldn't idle under a 1000 RPM this in turn caused the emissions light to come on.

5. Christmas eve EPC light and emissions light came on and stayed on.

6. Wind noise in the cabin coming from the N/S/R 1/4 light at motorway speed.

7. Complete renewal of front braking system at 25,000 miles as both disc's and pads where very badly corroded. (Gave me an excuse to upgrade to EBC Drilled & Grooved Combo along with Redstuff pads)

8. Everytime my Dad who drove the car requested a courtesy car he was told by the sevice manager that all the courtesy cars were out and that none where available.

I realise that all of you must think l'm on crack cocaine for swapping a Vrs for a Mundano, but my Dad was tired of getting buses and the occassional taxi to and from his work to the Skoda garage to pick the Vrs up. The Skoda garage had the Vrs up for sale at £7950. The Mundano is just a stop gap at present no more no less.

One more question if all the faults that happened to any one of your Vrs, would you still have confidence in the car? The only main BIG problem was the track rod rattling about as the thread had stripped, as my dad was doing a lot of motorway driving and if that had gone my Dad wouldn't be here to tell the tale. It was only the RAC (Skoda Assist Tech) that told my dad he was very lucky he wasn't on the motorway had the track rod end had popped out and very bad things would have happened. I do appreciate all your comments but at the end of the day it was a joint decision to bide the Vrs farewell.

I don't really get it - is it your car Andrew or your Dad's?

My Dad's car

I can see why you was getting miffed with the vRS, however it was still in warranty and to swap it for an older lesser specced FORD just seems a little short sighted, especially if your aim is to buy an even dearer newer SKODA. but it is your money etc etc so who are we to criticise :o

My dad had nothing against the Vrs it did deliver bucket loads of grin factor it did exactly would it said on the tin lol. It's just that he thinks he had a Friday Car lol. However his next car would be an Audi TDI not sure of model though.

Maybe I'm the only one in this thread that knows how your dad feels about VRS. I'm on the way doing the same thing, getting rid of my 2.0TDi 140HP that has only two years, 24.000km and maybe less problems then yours. I know how it is not to feel good in the car anymore. This week I'm off to Ford dealer to order new Mondeo TdCI 2.0 Titanium. If I go for factory order it will be at least 1.5 month and I hope my Octy doesn't fall apart till new wheels arrive.

Pitty, I was hoping I've got good, reliable car but I'm spending a lot of time asking for a ride from my friends. That's not the way it should be.

I've died a little inside after reading the OP :(

In defence of the Mondy, I had a 52 plate 2.0 TDI which had 90K on it when it was only 18mths old. It eventually got taken back by the lease company just after its 3rd birthday with 130K on it. I tried my best to kill it as I had to get rid of my Volvo T5 as it was pointless having my own car and the company Mondy. It got battered to within an inch of its life and it never when wrong !! The only thing it needed was a new clutch at 110K. After that experience, I kinda have a grudging respect for them now, one of the guys at work has a new one. Its better built that my Vrs, no annoying rattles and squeaks. Plus there is a dealer in nearly every town, my nearest is 15 miles away !!!

As for the performance difference, no car is faster than a company car ;-)

Your post helps me a lot.

Thanks

I sold my modded octy Vrs (Mk1) and got myself a Mondy 2.2 Titanium X.

I love it as it's as big as the octy and has all the gadgets as standard :D

It depends on what you want from your car and as I have been there and do all that I wanted something normal to drive for a while ;)

Also I don't have any corsa or saxo boys up my chuff all the time trying to get me to waste my fuel

Octy MkI vRS to Mondy 2.2 TitX

Octy MkII vRS to Mondy TDCi Zetec :thumbdwn:

I tried to kill an old escort diesel company car, even to the point of running it it without ever checking fluid levels, etc, always running in the last quater of the tank, but it still kept going, just sounded absolute cack. As far as the car was concerned it was the nastiest car Ive ever driven, it was truly a hateful car, but cant fault the engine for reliability, the garage that serviced it compared it to a toyota diesel saying they were 'bullet proof' and still had a lot life in it even though it was over 200k on the clock. It was an older non-turbo, diesel engine so not sure about the newer engines or those common rail diesels.

Went to Ford dealer today. I have it agreed, more or less, Mondeo 2.0 TdCI Titanium, Silver + Dark windows on the back, Xenons, 6CD MP3 Sony HU, Bluetooth and few more gadgets. As journalist, I have the right to 13.5% discount. It took 4000 euros from final price. I want it factory ordered (bad experience with Octy - stock car). Now I only need to see how much they'll give for my Octy and next step is placing the order.

I'll have some toys lef after my Octy goes away:

- OFF Button on Climatronic

- VAG COM (VCDS) cable (original, from Ross-Tech)

- Roof bars

Maybe I'll put those things on eBay (but I've never sold anything there, I'm just frequent buyer) if I don't find any of my friend wanting those. It'll be difficult as there are no many Octy MK2 owners arround me. I don't intend to give them away with my Octy.
