Mk2 Octavia Vrs is now gone

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just to let you know that my Dad's Mk2 Octavia Vrs is away for good, after all the hassle he has had with the car from Christmas Eve to a week ago he swapped the beast for 55 plate Mondeo Tdci. We now pass the beast every night going to and from work.

All l want to say is THANKS to everyone who has helped me in my moments of rant lol.

Needless to say the skoda dealer has the beast up for sale at £7800.

thanks once again you are all diamonds.

Ex Vrs co-pilot Andy

Sounds quite drastic.

What was wrong with the car? Couldnt the dealership fix the issue?

On Christmas Eve the Electronic Power Control light came on along with the emissions warning light. The car was swiftly taken to the Skoda dealer for a diagnostic, The master techie told us that the diagnostic indicated a possible fault in the ECU itself. So the car was booked in for further investigation work Wednesday 5th Jan 09. So after Christmas myself and my Dad popped into the dealer to ask about taking an extended warranty out on the Vrs. The sales man who sold us the car started laughing and said l thought you would be trading the car as it's nearly 3 years old, so l asked how much it would cost to be put in the Ford Mondeo Tdci that they had sitting there, and the sales manager said we will do you a straight swap. So we did a straight swap. But skoda will have to sort the EPC & Emissions light issue prior to the car being sold as it turns three years old on 3rd Feb 09. So on 7th Jan we said our goodbyes to the silver beast and hello to 05 55 Ford Mondeo Zetec Tdci.

Needless to say l still have my eye on the sales manager's 58 plate Superb that is packed full of toys. I'm also keen on the Octavia Mk3 1.8TSI so who knows my Dad might be at the helm of an ex demo Superb that's fully loaded or a 1.8TSI Octavia.

What a shocking deal :thumbdwn: ......... that Mundano is worth buttons!

I bet he had to try had to try and contain his pleasure when he shifted the mk3 mondeo, who's prices will be falling through the floor.

VRS' are in demand, so even after fixing yours, he can still make an easy profit and shift the car PDQ. Unlike the mondy ;)

EDIT: yes deal is shocking makefish. Another 'dealer saw them coming'

bit of a rash decision, hope you have more lucky with the 'Mundano', as those engines suffer their fair share of niggles, mainly injector problems which are silly money to replace.

Fingers crossed these are only rare occasions where the injectors go, you can normally tell by the amount of soot that comes from the exhaust, when accelerating from idle.

Swapped a car due to one EPC light coming on??? Did I read that right???

Madness.

No wonder the salesman was laughing, probably had that Mondeo sat there for an age,

Sorry mate but the more I read this more I cant help thinking you've been stitched right up!

I reckon if you'd ask one of our 'Techie' types on here the fault could have been sorted with a bit of VagCom magic.

How old was your vRS and what is the miles?

Not too sure of values of 4 year old Mondeos in the UK but would I reckon about £4000 ??

Mondeos book price (assuming 30k miles) is 5K, so it looks like he has been done over like a kipper. The skoda dealer has most likely had that car for months and took it as a P/ex and couldnt shift it. Now he has, and in exchange got a car that he is going to make nearly £3k on as a result.

What did he have the Mondeo up for on the forecourt?

Funnily enough we went the other way Mondeo TDCi to VRS estate

28K Mile, Mch 06 TDCi LX + £5K for a 15K mile Jul 06 VRS estate with 18", sunroof , privacy.

Yes we may have got £6500 for the Mondeo eventually with a private sale

Yes we may have got the VRS for £9500 privately but estates are hard to find and we did not really want the hatch! Deal was done in a day - no waiting for people to fail to turn up, no insuring 2 cars - I hate not having a car when looking at a new one, no trugging around looking at cars.

Effectively VRS cost £10350. Perhaps could have cost us up to £2k less if we were lucky. Reality probably cost us £1000 more than had we done it all privately. For us the ease of the deal made it worthwhil.e

TBH - the deal the guy got was fine if you ask me - at the end of the day a good deal is one that makes both parties happy and they are a business you know!! :)

cant believe anybody would swop a mk2 vrs for a derv mondeo! we have tdci mondeos at work & there nowt but trouble, always breaking down & going in for warranty repairs! the vectras we also have are much better(thats saying summat!!) i cant wait till i can change my mk1 vrs for a mk2! the mondeo wasnt even newer than the vrs,for a straight swop it should of been a 07 mondeo at least.:)

I can't believe this thread, do people really swap their cars at the slightest hint of trouble? Even when the fault is under warranty? Madness, even more so when the swap is for an arguably worse car!

I bought my Vrs because of it's quality, performance and relative rareity. Mundano's and Vectra's are in so vast numbers that it's a dead cert for heavy depreciation.

No comparison, just check the JD Power survey results for the proof.

Shocked, stunned, and not a little amazed, you swapped a in warranty vRS for an out of warranty Mondeo And after the salesrep said he expected you to trade the car 'cos it was nearly 3 years old , even if the ECU was fubared it would have been replaced at no cost.

Rearrange the following, coming seen :orb_no:

It makes me want to:mecry:

Amazing.

So, having had time for it to sink in, have you started regretting your decision yet? Straight swap??!?

Steve

I'd be surprised if the OP will be back to justify his Dad's decision :o

after reading the comments on here, its like the electronic version of having a custard pie shoved in your face

And not without good reason! If the OP had perhaps asked for some views on what was being planned, his issues could been avoided and he wouldn't have been completely done over!

Steve

IIRC there have been other issues with this car which I guess is why it's been bid farewell, however not wishing to appear to jump on the bandwagen but I do have to say it would appear to be a frying pan and fire situation.
