Insignia recalled.

Featured Replies

think the police bought the last 700 omegas to keep to use i heard, great cars so they were. shame the insignias a let down already.

They aren't a let down, they have a faulty £2.99 switch, I had 2 Omegas and there still, isn't a better car out there, granted it's dated now but had VX kept it alive it would still be wiping the board, ohh and btw there are more VX's sold in this country than any other marque, what does that say? my Superb is a great car, but given the choice between an Octy 2 or a Vec I would choose the Vec all day long, 1 for dealer service and 2 because I wouldn't wanna look like Grandad driving up the road.

Have to say the Vectra is a shameful car IMHO, I hate them with a passion.

The omega is a different kettle of fish however and the insignia is yet to be proven either way.

close but no cigar unless you can prove that more of Ford's regs are not actually sold :p

I quite fancy a signum, basically because its bonkers but I won't be able to change for a long time so its a moot point.

Any plans for a mad Insignia variant?

Sorry I should've said last year, I made it sound like every year there.

Signum is a good choice, helluva car, the only thing about the Vec/Signum's I find sub standard is the dash design, the Insignia has addressed all that, it's laid out smart and has the dash meet door design Rover used sometime ago where the dash curves round to meet the door, think it was the 200/400 series that had it iirc, but it gives you the feeling of sitting in mission control for want of a better description, and the seat is like a CC, you feel you are wrapped in it and the headrest is right behind you offering full protection.

So is that meant to make you less wrong?

I started out with just the Ford and Vx figures but I thought that was unfair. I put the rest of the list in to show just how many more cars than most brands they sell :) Skoda for instance sold very nearly 40k cars in 2007 and only 37K last year.

As for the Insignia, I've only seen the outside of them yet, a few awkward areas to the design but better looking than the mondeo.

Hmm - Bloated is the word that comes to mind for the Insignia - granted I've yet to see one in the flesh up close but what I've seen so far doesn't appeal.

And as for someone saying they would take a mk1 Vectra over a Mk2 Octavia... are you right in the head?

Wait till you see it in the flesh, you will like it I assure you.

As for the Vec vs Octy, if it was MK1 Octy I'd agree, but the 2 was a huge improvement all round imo.

Outside quite nice - better than the insignia.

Inside, just dull dull dull

Much better than the old one, I see your point as it's still last generation styling, but maybe Toyota did that on purpose to capture those that don't want 3d dials and retro looking heater controls, I'm deffo gonna take a look at it as every Toyota I've ever seen as a cab locally has stood up.

I wouldn't get too excited, I've got a Toyota (Verso) and it's nothing special. I bought it because the Fabia was a piece of crud from new, the Toyota wasn't much better.

from side on, that avensis looks similar to a new saab estate. similar front end. like it looks wise but have been put off by toyota's. member of the family had an auris (i think) with an auto gear box. was the worst gear box ive ever driven. couldnt make its mind up what gear it wanted and took 3 seconds to choose

Prefer the look of the IS220 to the Avensis.

Toyota = yawn!

:D

I sat in and drove an insignia while I had my vectra door card put back on the other day. I came back and got back into the Vectra, and much preferred it. My vectra isn't gadget laden, no where near as much kit as my Superb was, but everything works, everything feels robust and its all logically laid out.

And the Vectra is amazing to drive...so much better than the Superb and IMO the Insignia.

Having owned both I think the Vec has a few plus point's over the Superb 1, but the Superb 1 is a nicer car overall and if I had to choose again it would be the Superb, as for Insignia and Superb 2 vs a Vectra C I'd have either rather than another C it's not as good a car as VX normally make, but nowhere near the dog the motoring clique likes to say it is, s/h it's an amazing buy, 22k examples 8 mths old for 8k from dealers, can't go wrong.

I shouldn't have said anything, had to book the car in with dealer today regarding a creaky clutch and a loss of power!

Which model do you have Chris ? please don't tell me you bought a 1.8.

I loved the pictures of the Insignia I saw in Autocar, then yesterday I saw the first one in the flesh as it was driven out of Manchester Airport, with it's little Europcar sticker on the back. It looked awful, bland, dreary, fade to grey...very disappointed.

Probably an Exclusiv spec one, wait till you see an SRi with the 18's on it in black.

The two I have seen have had the little green E on the back too.

I had a 58 plate Vectra for a week whilst my Leon was in the garage, it was a 1.8 SRi. Not sure on it's BHP but I don't think it was many! Other than a lack of straight line speed it handled quite nicely for a big car, dare I say more relaxing when pushing it than my Leon which certainly requires more concentration. The seats were hard but I got out after a hundred miles feeling fine, boot was massive, dash was horrible, stalks got some taking used too and there was a lack of toys. Having to work my own lights and wipers! Plus the radio didn't go on and off with the ignition but i'm sure that's just a setting that needed changing.

It looked nice and to be honest I would have a higher specced diesel one in a flash.

The Insignia has optional 20" rims....hmmm :)

And as for the 1,8 SRI, I had a 1.8 Life, which was awful, but handled well as you say. My diesel one ticks all the boxes, good for power and good for twisty bits...now to purchase the 19" Snowflake wheels for it :)

Being a non skoda owning member so no bias I have to say the vx is better looking than any current or past skoda. Is as well made probably not will it drive as well I think so as the current octavia is good but nothing special. Comments please.

Steve.

I saw one for the first time yesterday, in a shopping centre. They had one on display. One of the few cars I've come across that's worse looking in the flesh. A lumpy heavy looking thing. And that front grill is awful. Horrid alloys too but then VX been putting them on everything for years.
