wet carpet in drivers footwell, help needed please?

Featured Replies

After all the bad weather we have been having recently i decided i should give my dirty oct vrs a well deserved clean. Once i had finished washing her i decided to remove the drivers front mat and when i did i noticed a wet patch just around the plastic bit near the pendals which is in the carpet as well as i trail of water coming down from just under the dashboard and to the right of the accelarater pendal.

I dont think its the heater matrix as im sure thats on the passenger side. The only problem i know of at the moment is the rear washer not working but i dont think its to do with that either.

Is there anything i need to look at as i dont really want an in car pond, lol.

I did look under the bonnet but couldnt really find anything out of the normal.

cheers

Make sure the pollen filter is clipped in properly as that can leak, also check the large rubber grommet that goes around the wiring loom where it enters the car on the drivers side in the engine bay.

cheers for that mate will have a look at both of those things tomorrow. Is where the wiring loom goes through easy to see?

It's not your sunroof drains blocked is it?:rubchin: if you look on the ''a pillar'' between the hinge and wiring loom there will be a black rubber tube sticking out they block up on mk iv golfs... same system/design i think?

cheers ill check that as well tomorrow.

its possibly the bonnet release cable grommit that goes through into the scuttle area, this was not in place on my car and allowing water to come in and get under the carpets. Combined with blocked scuttle drains it can let a lot of water in so both need to be checked.

the most common place for water ingress into the vehicle is through the door. Behind the door panel there is a plastic shroud covering the inner door skin. These deteriorate with age or more common are not refitted correctly after any repair in the door.

This was my problem a few months back. So my vote to check this area.

I tried everything on ours and finally found it was the sunroom drains as mentioned above.

If you open the sun room you will see the two front drain holes, try to pour some water down - it should go down freely and come out the rubber bits decsribed above on the door pillars. If they are blocked it wont flow down and will fill the channels up before overflowing somewhere. Mine ran through the electric motor and killed it.

They are easy to unblock and well worth a go.

note: there are two rear sunroof drains as well.

The mrs VRS has just been in the local skoda specialist for a leak onto drivers side footwell and rear footwell, they sucked up approx 8 litres of water and sourced the leak to the engine loom entry point?

Seal had completely perished, didn't help matters that drainage around scuttle panel area were blocked with loads of crap.

Apparently it's a very tricky part to get access to hence why I told her to put it into garage as opposed to me looking at it and getting moody haha!!
