lower intercooler pipe

Featured Replies

is it worth changing the pancake pipe for a larger pipe??

im running a front mount and that pipe looks really restrictive???

and would you have any clearence issues on full lock??

thanks for your time

I have a Forge FMIC and i also looked at changing this pipe but a quick chat with vrs si (Simon) made me think again.... He has lowered his car and with 18" tyres on there is clearance issues..(he has an ABD one iirc).I havnt lowered mine and dont intend to but do not want the hassle of it rubbing

Has anyone ever actually fitted one of these?

Was looking at them but I have 18x8 wheels and I don't want rubbing either!!

It doesn't look that much thicker

Depending on how much of the K04 system you will run you wont ave the pancake pipe anyhow.

Isn't the whole point in the pancake pipe the fact that it maintains the same cross-sectional area and flow rate?

It may be thinner, but it's taller as well, to maintain the same area.

Then again that new one does look very shiney, and it's not going to make the airflow any worse!

cant be much of an improvement tbh as said it doesnt look any bigger if at all, but i suppose the airflow through should be smooth as not have to change shape and go through a bottle neck in the exit of the pipe.

This pipe mod looks very interesting, is it stainless?.

This would remove the restrictive effect of that pancake cross section.

I am running on standard wheels and tyres (Contisport-Contacts), is it safe to assume on full lock there would be no tyre to pipe contact?.

Thanks

Update: Just looked on their site the material used is T304 Stainless Steel Nicee

Standard pipe is stainless BTW, so it's not that exciting!

An aluminium one might be slightly more exciting due to it's increased thermal conductivity. Might help cool the air a bit, pre intercooler.

I can't see this pipe giving you anything, other than an excuse to spend money on the car!

reading about this on other forums its a pointless mod:thumbup:

As Phil said, I fitted the ABD racing one but had major rubbing issues!

On 8x18's it rubbed badly even when on my stock suspension. Even worse once it was lowered.

I can't say I noticed any performance difference either :(

My standard 17's (running 225x45 tyres) rub the standard pipe as it is on no where near full lock.

I run the neuspeed one on my octy but as it was very low i had no rubbing issues from the tyres but the anti roll bar/tie rod put a but hole in it so it was removed.
