Jon - why didn't you tell me it was so good?

Featured Replies

I was just rooting around in my dump bin of car care bits and pieces and came across a little tube of scratch remover (can't remember the brand now, but it was in a yellow tube) I figured I'd see what the hell it did this afternoon, and its first test was a graze left on my boot's l/h corner by the screen, left by the table incident.

So, slapped a little of the white gunk on a cotton cloth, and as it said, rub it until the scratch disappears... "Nah" I thought, "Can't be as simple as that"... 20 seconds later, stopped rubbing, wiped off excess with the other end of the cloth and the flippin scratch has GONE! I don't mean just masked over, it has GONE and the original paintwork looks to be totally fine!

Now I wanna know why I'd never thought of doing this before? I went all around the car getting rid of surface scratches left by diving into hedgerows trying to get past cars on the narrow lanes down here, my cardboard box marks (don't ask!) have now gone! The only ones it won't do is anything that will catch your nail if you run it across... So the marks by my aerial are still there.

Still, scratcher remover wax stuff! BIG  from me.

I could do with a 5 gallon drum of this stuff ... any chance you can remember the name of it Jason? :)

Black paint - looks nice - doesn't last

As above. Could do with some of this stuff.

Try Brasso liquid.

Just for Briskoda I went and got a piccie of it... See below. Oh, and I did my own  too... Not sure where it can be got, but it's got a French address on the back and a "6" prefixed bar code, indicating it was probably bought in France too. Jon probably knows where he got it. :D

I have tried it, have not found it to be overy effective.

I have used this on my last two cars, very good stuff indeed. The kit is great at stone chip removal, but only if you are the sort of person that is artistic and takes your time. I haven't, however, had the courage yet to use it on my Black Magic!!!!

Surely T-Cut will do just as good a job?

I would think T-cut is fine for marks that have not gotten through the paint. Or indeed any rubbing compound, but be gentle if using the compound. It could take the lacquer off metallic paint.

a) T-Cut do 2 types, 1 for flat paint and 1 for laquered/metallic.

B) Any scratch/mark removing/abrasive substance will go through any paint covering given enough time and effort...and in the case of some not much time or effort. Personally if the mark is slight then if something was needed then I would try a polish or cleaner wax first. Then if if still remained after waxing up after the attempt. I would only then try something more abrasive.

Andy - I tried two coats of Tcut metallic on my roof, but it didn't have much effect, so tried the scratch remover and it shifted 90% of them, and masked over the worst of the rest. I'm going for an intensive clean in Jabba's car park on Saturday, so will be using it even more I should think, then a coat of Zymol should seal it off a bit.

I have used this stuff too, it does work very well at removing the scrathces but left the paint finish a bit dull afterwards (black magic metallic). A couple of coats of wax soon gets it back to it's normal shine though !
