vRS Multi Function wheel

Featured Replies

From previous topics on here it looks like the face lift vRS is going to be offered with a multi function wheel. Would love to retrofit a multifunction job to my non DSG vRS. Would like to keep the 3 spoke look though so dont fancy fitting the current 4 spoke job.

I am looking into this and I'm already on the case trying to source a wheel and airbag that doesn't cost the earth. Will definitely be doing this, only hurdle I can think of will be the airbag if it's a different configuration but I'm not sure. Will need to do some more research.

This will do the job then :

Only problem is that it comes with the DSG paddles. There's no 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel for Skoda without the paddles.

I wonder why???

Any idea how much this wheel would cost ?? Would it replace a current 4 spoke multifunction wheel in a dsg car ??

yeah spotted that one downtime...but as u pointed out its got the DSG padles which I have no need for...bit stupid if they are not going to have a multifunction wheel for manual gearbox cars...

This should get you going but its best if you understand Czech but it gives the prices in Czech Crowns - a good credit card (like nationwide) will give you 30 Crowns to the £ so 8,900 cns = £297 plus postage.

But I think you also need the correct wiring and some programming to make it all work. Do a search as I am sure VRstu has cover this

Skodateile are displaying a proper vRS one. As for the paddles.. there must be a non DSG version somewhere. It's a shame I don't know a friendly Skoda dealer who understands that cars can be modified beyond remaps and exhausts :(

Can anyone categorically confirm that there is only a DSG version? Because if that's the case I will just buy one and live with the paddles although I'd rather not have them. Probably just take them off but I suspect that'll leave a gaping hole at the back or something.

There's no 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel without the DSG paddles available for any Skoda car. Period.

You cannot get one as a factory option so you sure won't get one afterwards. Atleast a Skoda branded one.

Of course you can buy Audi or VW version but then you'll have a "wrong" logo and wrong illumination on the steering wheel. And before you ask, no the logo cannot be changed. It's actually part of the airbag system.

I don't understand why......

Would it leave a big hole in the back of the wheel if the paddles were removed? I know there was a thread elsewhere (tyresmoke I think) where loads of the GTi boys were changing their silver DSG paddles for R32 brushed aluminium ones but I can't find it anywhere. I'd be interested to know how bad it would be with the paddles removed.

Here's something :

It seems that the paddles are not removable. For the Golf GTI the guys have just put the new aluminium paddle covers on top of the old ones.

One guy writes on that thread that it's impossible to remove the paddles without breaking them.

There is another post:

This is simply inaccurate. I have removed both paddles from my mkV GTI without damaging them at all. In-fact, my paddles are currently off my car...

As I posted earlier you MUST remove the airbag -- you can not even reach the bolt that holds the paddles until the airbag is off. If you break one paddle, VW simply replaces the paddle...

Cheers,

DJM

I guess one of us will probably end up buying one and finding out. Give me a few weeks ;)

Ok, I must've missed that one. Nice find.

So that means it might be possible. Now, if you can just find suitable blanking caps to fill the holes then it should be a very neat job.

  • 2 weeks later...

Anybody chanced their arm buying one yet ?

The Skodateile VRS paddle wheel doesn't come with an airbag, so would obviously have to buy one separately.
