I have just bought an octavia VRS Estate (54 plate) and am not happy with the sound system. Does anyone know if I should be looking at changing the head unit and/or the speakers.

The factory speakers are pants. A quick win is to change the speakers. I have got some Aplines in mine, s-types (iirc - there were fitted by a previous owner).

Note there is not much depth in the door, so ensure any speakers do might buy will actually fit!

I think quite a few people used to recommend disconnecting the rear tweeters - see Post 3 in http://briskoda.net/technical-guides/tips-octavia-tips/50003/ - although that is for the hatch. Can't remember what the set up was in the estate sorry

If you want a set of direct replacements, then look at the Alpine 6.5in custom fit SXE-1750S component speakers. They are e-types.
