If my Egr Valve was to Stick Open ????

Had trouble's today & now they have multiplied 3 fold :(.

If an Egr was to Stick in the open position, What would the symptoms be ??.

Reason....

MY Car is now making a Chuffing noise & sort of Misfiring with the Engine shaking badly.

If i disconnect the Vacum Hose on top of the Egr actuator whilst the Engine is running, Nothing Changes ! I would expect something to change if the Egr was not causing the problem.

The Car was running fine apart from the Intercooler boost hose had popped out partially as per here & there was a hoover sound/Hiss due to boost leakage.

The Hose was put back together using some Zippies, The Car was started & then the above Chuffing/shaking started :confused:.

There was no Mechanical Noise or no top end rattle like a Valve dropped Etc nor No Engine management light. If i take the boost hose off at the Egr & start it you can here it chuffing through there, Like the egr pipe is recirculating at Tickover ...

So could a stuck open Egr give these symptoms ??

I have abandoned the car @ work as it was dark & im severely fed up now :(

Erm make sure it still isn't leaking. Bit of a co-incidence that the hose blew, you have a temporary fix and yet still more problems...

Says to me your original problem isn't "fixed"

DEFINATELY, thats the symptoms of a blown turbo hose. Check all the hoses that go to and from the intercooler, theres a possibility it has poped off somewhere else as well. Or as mentioned above, the original popped pipe is still leaking.

Funny thing is, the Car ran fine with the original hose half off apart from the hissing noise.

That part of the Hose is now fixed & leak free & i could not see any other intercooler/boost hose's that had come away/off...

But like you say it is Bizarre, Im just wondering if the Egr has decided to pack in also as the chuffing is definately coming from within the inlet ..

If you've checked them all then im not sure mate, would just be guessing.

When my pipe popped off, every time i put my foot down it would cough and splutter and the engine would jurk back and forward angrily, like you mentioned, thats why i thought boost pipe.

I suppose if the EGR valve was to stick open (basically running on exhaust fumes) i would guess it would missfire as well.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

try something other than zip ties! this maybe the problem! get a jubilee on to see if that makes any difference?

Started the Car this Lunch time & it sounds like a PD130 Should do !!!! Not like a Lister 1 Cylinder Diesel !!!

So , Something was stuck & im still thinking Egr !!!

Time to scan for fault codes me thinks. If none there I would suspect vacuum control unit or vacuum leak somewhere.

Well i gave the Egr the carb cleaner treatment as recommended by an Independant Skoda specialist.

Got a Pal to set the throttle @ a high tickover & then gave it a few squirts, It did not like it much & preceeded to sound like it did before when the Gremlins had taken hold, Eventually it cleared & went back to the PD130 sound.

An Egr is £137 + the dredded Vat, So i think im going to replace it along with the Top intercooler hose as the little Spring clip locking lugs have worn away ...

It's not a big job to take it off and give it a good cleaning. Can't do any harm and that's a lot for a new one if not needed. Amazing the gunk in there when I did it. Have you thought about the elephant mod to keep it and the intercooler cleaner?

anyone know where you can buy decent quality hose clips.....jubilee styleee. Not those daft vw/skoda ones. Can't see any on the bay of E's. There may be a special name for 'em.

I had same problem with my car and the egr valve was stuck open when I dissconneted the plug it was still rough so drove it 30mins and error code come up and it ran perfect so dissconnet your egr plug and see what happens after a drive 

I suspect that in the intervening 12 years the problem has been resolved!
