51 mk1 4x4 + remap vs 06 A4 2.0T Cabriolet!

Featured Replies

now before you all start with the quips about boy racers etc, this is a serious question(almost) I have a standard 4x4 1.8T (150bhp) which I paid quite a lowly sum for and I am very happy with it(except for a small but growing list of things that I must, I mean want to change). one of the other engineers Had a MR2 roadster and he got quite upset that it could not get away from, or catch the lowly :DOcty:D(up to the national limit obviously) now the same engineer has gone and bought an 06 A4 2.0T Cab. (200bhp I think and 206lb ft of tourque) the serious question is, would the Octy with a standard remap of about 205-215bhp depending on who you talk to be able to "keep up with" / "stay in front of" the Audi? I know the cabriolet is about 200kilos heavier than the saloon version which is book at 7.6secs 0-60. As this engineer is keen on their Skoda badge jokes I would love to spend £99 with ECU Evolution vs his 20k and still be close enough to be really annoying  what do you think?

not sure mate but someone on hear will i truly hope it dose though lol he will be gutted :rofl::thumbup:

A remap should take you to around 230 - 240lb ft of torque so I would say yes it should not only keep up but beat him convincingly.

I know I have shamed some seriously quick cars in drag races since my remap.

Granted mines a Vrs so will have less transmission losses than a 4x4 but even so I don't think you'll have a problem

I know its not what I am normally concerned about, but I just can't help it, I would love to see his face when an 8year old "but its a Skoda" stays with or leaves his 20k car. just wish I could get it on camera.

Lex, I thought there shouldn't be too much of a loss due to the way the Haldex works? not a full time 4wd like the quattro or scoobys.

You will have a traction advantage, slightly more power and less weight. Therefore you should win however I'd say it'd be all in the gear change. Tell the guy to stop buying hairdresser's cars and buy something with some meat (and preferably 4wd - I've had 3 A4's and they are terrible for wheelspin due to the weight unless they are quattro).

its the same chassis as the passat isn't it? I know the previous generation were all tagged B5/5.5 and the wifes Passat with the 130tdi likes to light up the fronts regularly. where as the octy only ever slips on thick frost or sheet ice.

I don't think he'll be embarrased, it depends on traction. If he can get it away cleanly then he'll give you a good run for your money. The Quattro will be sapping your power.

Don't make the mistake of telling him you have remapped it either... it's standard, honest! ;)

No, the A4 cab is B6 and the 2.0T in question must be a B7

i think it'll be fairly even, you'll have slightly more power and slightly less weight but greater loses and completely different gearing. the biggest difference will be reaction times and driving skillz.

Fabia 2.0 would take both like a king.

without a doubt - all the time

in a nutshell

oh and local knowledge

...the 1.8T 4x4 is so unbelievably unbelievable...I mean I could go on....

normally I dont subscribe to the "mine is faster than yours" kind of arguments but I just love the fact that he is so bothered that the Octy in standard form is quicker than his MR2. I just hope that the remap for under a £100 is good enough to really upset him when he gets the new A4. It is a slippery slope though once you start changing bits, so far its been replace the bits that break with better ones, but that could change very suddenly :D

Until he gets his remap..................

i love pulling up at the lights in mine and pulling away quicker than the person next to me, my mates are very surprised in the power of these beasts ive done a few nice motors

A Quick Update

finally left the office at the same time, with a clear road from the lights. :D :D :D :D :D.

ECU Evolutions remap £99

Audi A4 2.0T £19995

seeing it drop away in the rearview mirror £ priceless

now if I can just cure the 17705 and keep it boosting all the time i'll be really happy

I am sure there are those out there that wouldn't mind being (lightly) beaten by a Skoda driving girl. ;)
