vRS wheel corrosion

Featured Replies

Has anyone else had a problem removing the rear wheels of their vrs? I wanted to swop the wheels from front to back to equalise wear and found the rears corroded to the hubs although the fronts were ok.Its eleven months old with 11k on the clock. It might be worth checking them at your leisure rather than finding them stuck on a dark night with a puncture on an unlit road.

Yep, several of us have had this problem, and it can happen with any alloy wheel to be honest.

Did you get them off? If you did, i suggest you smear the appropriate areas with CoppaSlip or similar, it will save a LOT of grief in the future ;)

It's a common problem, and one I've suffered myself. There are some good suggestions in this thread on welded wheels

This was originally highlighted by (I think) Denis ages ago. They are an absolute swine to get off especially if you've got a flat and your car is balanced on the standard jack.

Mick is right to highlight this again and I suggest to all members to get some copper grease before they get caught out.

I've had this problem with all cars that I have owned with alloys. My old granada was the worst, it took the tyre centre nearly 1/2 hr to remove 2 wheels when they needed tyres.

i found on both my SEATs to give em a bit of a warm up before removing, and yes copper slip does the trick, took the powder coating stright off my alloys once, not a happy bunny
