Look after your vRS

Featured Replies

I know the Octavia vRS is a great car but last night I chased away a burgler who had broken in to get the keys to mine. The little b*****d had even cleared the ice off the windscreen in preperation for a quick getaway. Message to all of you to take your keys to bed with you!

Not good news, what area in the country did this happen?

I would rather they took the car than came upstairs and beat me up looking for the keys. Leave them downstairs, its not worth it.

Just goes to show that these light fingered scrotes will target any performance vehicle, regardless of make or model.

Good job catching him in the act. You've got to be worried now in case they come back surely?

Thing is, it doesnt have to be a performance car. They will try and take anything.

True - although thieves tend to favour cars with a bit of "go" as it makes getting away from the Police a little easier, especially where they're going to be used to commit further, more serious crimes.

They made of in a Seat Leon so they must be looking for the same type of cars. Police gave chase but lost them. My first instinct was to attack. Rather be judged by twelve than carried by six. Its my car, I worked hard to pay for it and there is no way some pikey is taking it from me.

What about keeping a set of "dummy keys"? Say a copy minus the RFID "chip"?

That way you can hand them over, barricade yourself in and call the police while they mess about trying to start the car up.

This is the best idea I've heard for a long time.

Well said.

I keep my car garaged but I live on a cul-de-sac where there are much more expensive cars than mine (Jag, Range Rover, BMW X5, Volvo XC90) that are all left outside overnight.

If I saw someone trying to pinch any of them I would be out there, as would a number of my neighbours - some of them aren't the sort of people to be messed with

there are imitation joke keys that when you press the button to release the key blade it gives them an electric shock, cant remember which online store they were on but they do look genuine

Sorry that you have had a visit from these %@$*”^. See my thread are your keys safe...

Not sure if I would have preferred seeing the thieves, alt least I would have had some idea who had been in my house....

Suggest you look at the clifford black jaxx etc for the car so if they drive off the car shuts down down the road.

Also suggest you look into improving your house security and a burglar alarm which you can put on to monitor the external doors etc when you're in. Does your house have a garage or do you have a friend that's close enough to walk but not too close that you can hide the car away at for a few days?

The car has a tracker fitted but thats not the point. Its my car and they aint having it!

Hope the plods catch them for you before they comeback.

Where was this? We're finding car key burglaries are really on the up now, with car immobilisers becoming so much more sophisticated etc. (Rural Hampshire)

I also work in Rural Hampshire (oop north) and we've certainly had a large increase in car theft burglaries here too.

the key idea would be great :D

just think, they open the car, key fits the ignition, turns the barrel but nothing happens, are they going to twig on you've got a fake key? not a hope in hell! they'll think oh **** the car wont start and leg it, hopefully leaving the key behind

the theiving little s*****s usually target 4 door cars , it means they can get into and out of them quicker when their nicking stuff or chased.

this nicking keys is getting to be the norm , when i had my scooby loads were nicked like this , although a few went with the owners being attacked , 1 was serious with a hammer iirc .

having 2 big dogs gives me a bit of peace of mind , they could not get in quietly , the rottie can be heard in the night growling if he hears anything, if i thought there was anybody about tho i would just hope the dogs just didnt push past me accidently and frighten anybody , my german shepherd is long haired and difficult to grab when he is stressed , wouldnt want anybody badly bitten .

I've got a shepherd too but if someone breaks in thats their problem. The law needs to stop protecting criminals, and start protecting the tax paying victims. I think once you enter someones house illegally you should not enjoy the protection of the law and if your **** gets bitten by a guard dog hard luck.

A heard of one guy who had his keys stolen , he heard the car start and raced downstairs but was too late

The worrying thing was that there was his kettle filled with boiling water sat on the stairs presumably ready for if he had come down the stairs a little earlier !!

My keys are on a hook in the kitchen, they are welcome to them if the break in, its only a car at the end of the day

I have dogs too, and I'm afraid if someone broke into my house with the intention of stealing my property or hurting my family then I would set the dogs on them without hesitation. You are, according to the law, entitled to use reasonable force to defend yourself and your property, and like Richf said above, you don't know what they have in store for you if you challenge them, so go in hard straight away - I'd happily defend myself in court after having seriously hurt some sh*tbag burglar - "I 've heard all sorts of horror stories your honour, about how these thieves carry weapons in case they are challenged, and didn't want to be stabbed, so I struck a pre emptive blow with the closest thing to hand, which just happened to be an iron"

If they really want it, dogs wont stop them. They'll sort that issue out from the off, and theres more than one way of doing it.

It's sad, but true. These scum just dont care.
