Test driving a Superb Elegance

Featured Replies

Got a superb overnight from my local dealer , so far very impressed i have the 2.0 tdi model with a few extras on it but impressive spec without them

Really like the gearbox probably the best gearbox i have ever used , managed to stall it once already i stall my wifes Octy all the time as well dunno why

I like the steering as well, feels nice as it loads up , dont like the speedometer , the numbers arent easy to read and i'm used to the speedo on the left so that will take a while to get used to

Also found the climate buttons a bit fiddly

Not sure the world is quite ready for no cd changer as standard either but all in all i like it

Glad you liked the Superb overall, however, having come from an Octy II, I would say the Superb II speedo has similiar, if not better clarity. In particular, the graduation of the speedo in 10mph increments up to 80mph is something other manufacturers could adopt; it makes it so easy to read your speed at a quick glance.

yeah - take a look at teh new A4 speedo. its rubbish. 70mph is where 40mph is on the superb. its impossible to tell what speed you are doing under 30mph/ you have to use the digital speed readout in the centre display. Superb speedo is really clear

You shouldn't need a speedo, listen to the engine and you'll know what speed you're doing.

In my Superb (TDI CR) you can't hear the engine in normal driving!

Me neither i took Pauls comment to be a joke

Hi

just clocked up 4k on mine in the last 2 months so its worn in now.

great motorway drive and the built in bluetooth phone stuff is great as I drive it for work all day.

some of my collegues have been out in it and like it as well.

hope this helps in your decision

brian

you can hear the engine in the 170 - once you get to 70mph !! and when you are sat (rattle) at the (rattle) traffic (rattle) lights

In the petrol however its totally silent !!!

(sorry - couldnt resist !)

To hear or not to hear, that is the question :P

Anyway, you can always look at the multifunction display to see the exact speed :holmes::leb:

my mfd is in Km/h. I know you can change it but i havent bothered to work out how to do it....i must go and RTFM !!!

Jonathan

I wanted to remove the Km/h display, in a previous thread I was told you cannot, you must have km/h displayed, by law, and as it is not on the speedo then the MFD display must stay on. Odd because when the display is on phone or navigation it does not display km/h!

If you can find a way of removing it or changing to mph please post, thanks, Graham

It's very simple, you can fully configurate the MFD to show what you want, and in the units you choose (miles or km, mpg or l/km, etc). I did it the first day I had the car using the steering wheel controls...

Graham, I think you're right...I would also like to know if it can be changed to mph.

Dan

Actually, I was totally serious. Take the advanced driving test by visiting Institute of Advanced Motorists | Welcome to the IAM! and you'll see what I mean. I also drive a 170 CR in an Octavia so I know what you mean about it being quiet. You can tell what speed you're doing though. The test is good value and a very valuable driving experience. The Maxidot is capable of being set up quite easily for speedometer reading of either mph or kmh as is whether you want a single door open after remotely opening it or all of them. This is only one of the options with maxidot. Well worth having.

Alvaro, I think your specification is different to the UK!

Paul007, please can you explain which MFD menu you use to remove the km/h display in the MFD. The manual refers to the button to the left of the tachometer as switching the display between km/h and mph, this does not work. This button only appears to alter the MFD clock. The units section of the MFD setup is only for fuel consumption units as far as I can see.

If anyone does know how to either remove or modify the permanaent km/h display please post a complete answer rather than "oh it's easy!" I have RTFM and sat in the car and tried all the menu options I can find, nothing seems to work.

I think it was James from Allams who answered a previous post by saying that you cannot turn off the km/h display as it is a legal requirement for all UK cars to have speed displayed in both mph and km/h, and as the speedo does not have dual markings the MFD display has to show km/h all the time.

I welkcome any positive comments and instructions to remove or modify the display.

In that case I could be wrong but I was playing with mine and found the setting just by scrolling through the menus. Leave the said item highlighted and wait for the display to go off and it sets. It's in the FM as I saw it, and also I RTFM to find out if it was possible. Mine's an Octy btw not £25k's worth of Superb. Shame but true.

Paul,

Thanks but how to set the MFD on an Octavia is not really a great help! On the SUPERB there is not a menu item for current speed display on the MFD, that is unless any other Superb owners can enlighten me.

Thought they'd all be the same ?

I agree. there is no menu option on the UK spec SUPERB 2 to change the speed display on the MFD to mph. the settings are for the trip computer and set the mpg in litres or gallons. the manual does indeed refer to using the right hand button beside the tacho but this does nto work - it only changes the clock.

I understand the theory of having KM/h displayed but , as laready mentionedm this makes no sense because if you select audio or nav on teh MFD the spees display does away !!
