fabia vrs decat?

Featured Replies

hi thinking about buying a de cat for my vrs.will i see any gains in power or performance or should i just not bother?

Some say no some say go for it.

It's a lot more popular on the SEAT website, here there seems to be limited consensus that it makes your turbo blow up.

I have one, and I have half thought about having it taken off due to the smell, however it sounds fantastic on full chat so I have decided it stays,

As for performance, after I had it done it felt a lot more responsive at higher RPM's.

if u have remapped ur car then dont do it, alot have said and experianced the turbo blowing up,

i have my vrs custom remapped and did have it decated and it does sound great, but after JABBA recomended the cat should be on, next day it was back on the car, for the sake of £250 mod compared to a poss £2000+ if it goes wrong, your decision????

Hmmm, if Jabba recommend it I might have mine put back, I kept the original pipe so it should be just a case of bolt in and out

i think it would be the safest bet, alot of pennys if turbo goes wrong, but then it could be a good excuse to uprate the turbo lol

Thing is I didn't have the larger downpipe put in, just had a 2.5" bit of pipe in place of the cat, could it be the larger bore downpipe that causes the problems, for the removal of the CAT?

ultra joel-wat sort of noise does it make?is it like a turbo whistel like u hear on some scoobs with a de cat?

you can hear the turbo spool up when u floor it, but it dosnt sound like a scooby when it goes pass, its very deep noise, but not as throughty

joel all i did was when i had my full custom exhaust fitted, i kept the CAT, just took the cat to kwick fit and they welded the CAT back into the exhaust, i have a standard down pipe so fit straight in, and works a treat, passed MOT and never had a problem, i think the main worry with removing the CAT when remapped is to do with the back preasure, if u dont have it the turbo can over spool or suge and blow up, as far as im aware, im no turbo specialist.

Thing is I have a boost gauge installed, to keep an eye.

And I've never noticed any surge in boost.

ONCE I saw it spike at 25 psi (1.7 BAR), but most the time it spikes to 23.

When I had mine put in, Charlie at prospeed welded flanges onto the cat and the standard downpipe, so if I did ever want to replace its just 3 bolts in and out, so even easier than your method ;)

not after the boxer noise had that on my 300 brake scoob before my vrs just really like the turbo spool up sound.so you would no reckomend a de cat with standard centre and tailpipe and then a remap?

JF do it! Not had a cat for 4 years+

no i wouldnt if i was u,

thats well easy then joel, how easy was ur boost gauge install, always wanted to install one never got round to it

I've had mine on for a year now with no problems. Just let the turbo warm up and it should be ok.

WTF??

1) you dont need a CAT for MOT. Diesel = smoke test

2) Live devonutopia said, himself and I have no problems

3) Stop being women and put it on.

Its like saying, excessive alcohol will reduce life span. Do you stop drinking.............

I left mine on, got a Blueflame 100 Cell turbo back system and it works nicely.

The stock turbo is not quite as strong, so it may give up. But a hybrid should be absolutely fine if mapped correctly, with or without a cat :)

so if im nice to my turbo it should be ok with a de cat and re map and is worth it for a power increase

De-cat sounds soooooooooooo much better, spools up earlier and imo smells like a deisal should (old 49 bus)

Remap after a decat. That way you can have a custom setup that makes the most of it.

didnt you blame your original turbo blowing up on the decat section though?

didnt you blame your original turbo blowing up on the decat section though?

It could have been several things but who knows....

The OEM turbo is not that strong, and if you decat it and not map accordingly, it wouldn't surprise me if the turbo overshot what it can cope with. With a hybrid, it is just less likely to go wrong as those things are way, way stronger :)

What about leaving the exhaust standard apart from removing the rear box and welding in a replacement pipe. Will that not give the same sort of sound and keep the turbo safe?

So only running the cat, not tried that.

^ Known as a "mufflerectomy", popular in the states, and a few people have done it on the SEATCUPRA forum.

One guy with a Leon 150 had his backbox put back in after 6 months as apparantly it drones like a mofo on the motorway with no rear box.

But, it is a cheap way of getting noise.
