Koni fsd and ride height

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I have a fabia 1.4 16v on KW's kit which has lowered the car 3cm from standard ride height.I was thinking to change to Koni FSD and as I have read in the forum they work really well with eibach springs. I just want to ask is if koni fsd's can go lower than 3 cm to 4 or 5cm from standard height with other springs or eibach's.

I'm asking this because some of the members of the forum that put fsd's on have stated that they saw a slight raise at ride height which I don't want for my car.

Looking forward for youe help

I have a feeling it does increase the right height ever so slightly.

If your KWs are in good shape, I personally would not bother switching, it is a lot of money to switch to Eibachs and Koni FSDs from where you are at the moment.

Any reason you are considering switching?

having not fitted them i cant comment from experience, but id imagine, just like new springs, they might take a week or 3 to settle in

They are not really in good shape, I've had them for 75.000 kms already and the greek roads are not the best really! That's why I'd like changing them.

So you say there is no way going lower than 3cm with fsd's?

Depends on what springs you use.

ive just ordered fsd's and eibachs from awesome...wanted the koni -40mm springs but was advised to not go lower than 30mm by them...

Which springs should I use for lowering 5cm from standard ride height?

Why not go lower than 30mm?Mine is at 30mm now and I think it can go lower than this

You can go alot lower than 30mm, but it doesnt suit everyone.

Why it doesn't suit everyone?I don't get it.You mean going 50mm down is too low for the car?

you can only go lower by 50mm by using coilovers.....as i sed bloke at awesome advised 30mm wen using fsd's..

I have fsd's on my octavia, if you get them dont go any lower then 30mm, the fsd's are meant to work with standard springs and dont take well to lowering more then 30mm, as this stops them from working correctly.

Ok thanks everyone. So either get fsd's at 3cm which give you sports setup and comfort at low speed or coilovers, lose the comfort but could go at 5cm.

Anyone who can compare fsd's comfort vs coilover comfort?Cos I'm interested in comfort as whell

No reason why coil overs should lose comfort.

KW do progressive rate springs on coilovers which are just as comfortable as a regular spring and damper set up.

You mean fsd's and coilovers(quality one's i guess) are of the same level of comfort?

They can be - as Ross mentioned, coilovers of good quality are very adjustable & progressive ones can be bought if you spend on the right type.

Coilovers are not the be all and end all of suspension, you get a big variation in quality, just like with springs/dampers.

If you buy good quality stuff, you can get great results. I dont know how to adjust coilovers properly, and for me the Eibachs with Koni FSDs were a great combination.

I guess it all depends what you're after & how much you want to spend :)

How about handling? In terms of lower center of gravity with coilovers i mean.It should be better than the fsd's right?

Lower does not mean it handles better necessarily - sure gravity centre wise it does - but if the roads are not perfectly smooth, you do still need to absorb the bumps - too little ground clearance or hitting the bump stops will kill the handling too.

I just like to ask: does bilstein have dampers that have the same technology like koni fsd. My mechanic says they do exist but I don't know if it's true.Because on their website they don't have a similar product.

VAG cars are not the best in handling field, it would take a lot of work and cash to improve. Whether you drive a Golf, Fabia. Passat, Ibiza etc. they all feel the same the best improvement will come from wheel/tyre combinations. I have just bought a VRS with KoniFSD/eibach springs and they are no lower than 30mm. but the ride and cornering ability is great, best suspension I have driven in a VAG motor and I tried a few. I f you have to change your suspension the only way to go will be the expensive way like Weitec's if you want a set up that works in the way you like. You could be dissapointed in trying untried low combinations.
