Window tinting

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I'm after getting my Octy estate tinted from the 'b' pillars back, I understand that the door windows will have to come out for a pro' job, my questions are these:

1. Has anyone had this done after market?

2. With 2 young children in the back, my concern is about them scratching the tint, is it quite tough?

3. I live near Dover, in the South East, is there anyone local to the area?

4. What sort of money should I expect to pay?

5. Does it like good, or a sad pimp my ride effort?

Thanks in advance, Lee.

YES

SO LONG AS ITS GOOD QUALITY IT IS SURPRISINGLY TOUGH

3. I live near Dover, in the South East, is there anyone local to the area?

PASS

4. What sort of money should I expect to pay?

MY LAST CAR (FIAT STILO) COST ABOUT 200ISH QUID FOR THE BACK 3 WINDOWS

5. Does it like good, or a sad pimp my ride effort?

I LIKE IT BECAUSE ITS SAFER FOR VALUABLES, KEEPS THE CAR ALOT COOLER IN THE SUMMER, FEELS MORE SNUG INSIDE, AND LOOKS COOL OF COUSE (BUT THAT DEPENDS ON WHAT CAR COLOR YOU HAVE)

You might want to consider sun blinds. They look a bit more classy in my opinion, cheaper, won't scratch and you can remove them if you want, although I never have.

From the bloke who returned my call the other day about a possible order, OE Sunshades (search on here to find pics) have handed over the ordering to another company who are doing the january sale price as the norm now. Give them a bell if you want details, I think it's about £80-90 a set for an Octy estate.

I have my octy estate pro tinited for £200. 7 windows in all.

Its tough and has a lifetime warranty. The same chap did my now 4 year old forrester and the tints are still in perfect nick. He used moonraker film whixh is good stuff apparently. I have 2 kids and prams & bikes go etc in the boot - no scratches so far :)

No where near you though, He's in Sheffield.

I think it looks cool and keeps the car cool too.

Got mine done shortly after it arrived from dealer, couple of pics here: http://briskoda.net/skodas-sale/octavia-vrs-estate-2007-sale/136186/

Not everyone's cup of tea but I like it especially with black cars. Franchise called Autotint did mine, I assume they are nationwide.

Had three cars done by them now and never had any complaints.

aftermarket tints are generally very good quality if you go to a firm. I use a company called Shadeace in Southampton - about £200 for everything b pillar back - I can ask if they know anyone in your area if you like. Also, the windows DON'T have to come out - they tend to remove or loosen the scraper inside the door panel and tuck the tint down - I've had them do 4 cars for me and they've all been done this way, and all been perfect...

There are loads of skoda sunblinds on e-bay at a very reasonable price:thumbup:

That be a big help, thanks.

Mine still look great after nearly 4 years. Done by a pro who worked from his garage at the time!

SWMBO has been in the car pished a few times, and banged her hand against the window with her watch and rings and I can't see any scratches.

They are pretty tough.

Who is this SWMBO? she seems to get about.......!

I agree the sun blinds do look good, and are far cheaper, but I'm not sure about the 2 piece rear set up, plus I can't see them lasting the test of time or 2 little gits under 5!!

Is the rear roller blind still available from Skoda?

SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed :D

Nope - I checked when I got my new vRS. They had to swap the parcel shelf over with my old vRS as the roller blind is screwed onto it.

Thanks for that, but I was only kidding.......have got one myself you see!

You dont have to take the windows out but the process takes a lot longer than you might think , my Skyline rear window alone took almost 3 hours to do

I pay £200 - £250 depending on the car , i find the stuff is kid proof provided they dont deliberatly try to scratch it and you can always just get another window done if they do

Had both my cars done B pillar back , the Mercedes is graduated ie darkest on the rear screen and gets lighter towards the front, doesnt feel dark inside but certainly cuts down the heat in the summer

The Skyline is the same all around

admittedly it's a Mundano, but the windows were fab. Whole lot (A pillars back) cost me £200 and took about 3 hours from Shadeace in Southampton.

Please don't mention the wheels - they were an impulse buy and I still regret them...

Rather than starting a new topic, I thought I would revive this one. Even though I originally started this thread nearly 2 years ago I still haven't got around to doing this mod, and quite frankly I'm still torn between tints or sun shades! :S

I can see the benefit of both, so which one?

I have found a local company to me who will tint 'B' pillars back for £170 which includes a life time guarantee! :o

Or has anybody purchased these actual ones?

I bought a set of blinds from vanstyle for my FL hatchback. The side ones are superb- a easy fit, do the job and more than one person has asked me if the glass is tinted. I'd have to say that the rear window was less of a success though. Whilst it did fit, it was in 2 parts so looked like it had a large stripe down the middle, also the fit was not as good ('though it may of course be different for the estate). I pretty quickly took 'em off the rear window as I didn't like the reduce view from the 'tint' and vertical bar.

The type on ebay are 2 piece for the rear which I am not so keen on, I suppose a combination of blinds and tints are an option, blinds for the side and have the rear glass tinted. :wonder:

Can anyone recommended someone in the north east, newcastle area, thanks

Nick a pair of the missus tights & stretch 'em over the top of the whole doors. Pikey window tint mod. :)

I was thinking of doing similar, as the rear blinds look daft with the join down the middle IMO. You also need to think about the grade of tint for the sides on a black estate, to prevent further adding to the van/hearse look :D

15 denier in spring, fishnets in summer for the cooling airflow affect.

I wouldn't need to stretch them....................... B)
