Erratic cruise control Mk2 Octy L&K

Featured Replies

I have cruise fitted as standard on my mk11 L&K. occasionally the cruise control doesn't work. Then I stop the car. next time I use the car it works. anybody any ideas? It's only happened a couple of times, but it really annoying as I use it lots on motorways & long stretches of road where it's safe and I don't want to have to watch the speedo all the time.

Yes it's quite a common fault, a new stalk will normally fix it.

would it be covered by my warranty direct warranty do you think?

I've just had the CC Stalk replaced on my October 2006 Octavia under Warranty. I bought my car from second hand from a Skoda main dealer and it came with a 12 month Skoda warranty. My car was exhibiting the same sort of behaviour as yours, so I booked it into my local dealer on a Monday morning and I had the car back with a new stalk (and new graphics on the stalk) later that afternoon.

.. my 54 Elegance was the same. A complete Cruise system is only around £200 (according to my dealer) so a stalk wil probably be less than your excess....

to those of you that are past the warranty. it is possible to make a small repair and make it work again. ive done it twice on mine and its so easy to fix. 5 minutes and its working again :D

the guide is here === VWFANATIC === sorry its in danish . but If you follow the pictures you'll see have to get it out of the stalk and put it apart. Then clean with electronic cleaner where the red rings are. use some electronic cleaner (contact cleaner) on a ear-cleaner(the one's with cotton on each ends) and wipe the dirt of thats causing the mailfunction of the cruise control. put it all back together and your cruise control will work again  no need to buy an expensive new stalk

I'm interested in the answer to this question...

My dealer did my cruise/indicator stalk under warranty no quibbles.

One thing worth considering for those no longer under warranty -

If the car has a FSSH then it is highly likely that you might be able to get it fixed under the goodwill scheme so it's worth having a word with your dealer.

AFAIK there isn't a predeterimined time limit, all cases are taken on merit however you do need to have a FSSH.

The cars may be well out of warranty however VAG have known that this is a problematic part for quite sometime, probably before some of the cars in question fell out of warranty.

Whats FSSH?

From speaking with Skoda over here mine would NOT be done under warranty due to the cost of the Part. Would it be approx. €100 for the stalk, someone mentioned anything under €150 would NOT be considered for Goodwill.

The reason I contacted them was the no. of faulty ones I heard of on here and also mine gets very little use and also on 32k miles on the car

Good man, I thought Full Service History but I couldn't figure out what the 2nd S meant.

Dealer said to bring it in to see codes so I might see what happens and if not covered I'll try the cleaning tip (makes sense I suppose with your finger over it stuff is bound to go down into it over time).

Stu, Have you noticed any particular difference between new and old types in terms of what changed to fix problem?

And they mean SKODA, my car is maintained by an independent Skoda dealer and the goodwill scheme does not apply even though I have a full service history.

Had mine checked the other day and No faults showed on it, would they disappear after a while.....I'm confused now as it definitely wasn't working.
