Felicia drive belt tension

Featured Replies

Hi, found this forum and thought this will be the answer to my problem.

Wife has a Felicia 1.3 MPI, just had the alternator repaired, got it off without a problem and have got the alternator back on, but can't for the life of me work out how to re-tension the belt.

Help?

there will be one bolt that has a slotted hole for adjustment, undo that and slacken off other bolts, bar over the alternator untill its pretty tight and tighten the bolts back up

Thanks for that.

This model has tensioning wheels, the aternator is in a fix position.

I've released the tensioner, but I can work out how to re-tension it.

i see, i havnt actually looked before on one of these, the way i said is usually the way on most cars but i guess it doesnt matter because thats no help!

sorry!

are you sure you've routed the drivebelt correctly around the pulleys/tensioner??

did you stretch the belt when taking the alternator off?

If it's a serpentine belt then getting the correct routing is crucial, but the tensioner should be automatic once the belt's routed right.

Thanks for the responses.

I don't think the belt has been stretched.

Route of the belt looks fine.

To release the tension originally, I turned the bolt on the right of the tensioner below and behind the alternator.

This took a couple of quarter turns counter clockwise.

What I can't do is return it to the orignal postion.

Hope that makes sense.

Thank you all for your feedback.

Now sorted. How stupid am I. In my defence, I didn't actually take it off or start putting it back on.

The belt wasn't routed correctly, had come off the bottom pulley, but virually impossible to see it though.

It's a 3 handed job to get it back on, one hand on the tensioner and 2 on the alternator.

Now I've found this forum, If I get any more problems I'll be back

Hello want to know how to take off a worn idler pulley- thanks

This is on a Felicia 1.3mpi

Presuming it has p/s or air con.

I did this job last year

I had to lift the engine at a slight angle, after removing the belt.

Because with the engine in its normal place the chassis stops you from getting a socket on to the bolt that holds the idler wheel.

It probably would be possable without moving engine, if there was a natty double 90 degree bent spanner you could get that didn't interfear with the chassis leg.
