Cracked Panoramic roof!

Featured Replies

I have just renewed my insurance on one of the cars - the terms and conditions booklet has been revised and it now has an additional sentence for the 'glass claims' section.

Basically it states that... windscreen and vehicle glass are covered with no loss of NCB and an excess of £60 will need to be paid. Vehicles with glass roofs however are NOT covered by this rule and would require a full claim to be made.

The policy is a Highway policy via Chris Knott brokers btw.

I tried some research whilst waiting for mine to arrive. I sent the question twice to "More Than". A receipt was issued with the usual "we will get back to you ASAP".

I changed my cover over yesterday morning so that I could collect it and asked the same question again to the agent.

She admitted that they cover loads of Roomster "3"s, but was totally unaware that it had a glass roof.! "Was this an addition?",Answer "no, you get it whether you want it or not"! Higher authority had to be consulted, I'll be back in 10 minutes.

As that was 24 hours ago, I think that a return call is now unlikely!

If it's the more than call centre I spoke to when I was trying to get a quote, before I gave up as they couldn't even understand my address properly then I think they mean "they will be getting back to you thank you please" and are going to pretend you never called.

If your insurer is this good when they want to take your money, I'd suggest it's time to change your insurer before you have try and take money from them.

I began to realise that yesterday. I think they call them "customer managers" or similar, but she was adamant that she had to cancel cover on the vehicle I was exchanging with immediate effect. I just couldn't make her understand that I had a 20 mile journey to the dealers, so had to retain cover until say 1500hrs when it was switched to the new vehicle. Eventually I had to opt for the changeover @ 0001 hrs this morning and drove home on the Skoda 7 day cover note. I'll certainly be getting some quotes in the next few weeks ready for renewal time!

This thread has given me the 'fear'. I checked my existing policy on the soon-to-be-px-ed Focus for a Roomster 3 and it clearly says in the exceptions that glass other than the windscreen is NOT covered at all.

So, if anyone has got a policy that does have their roof covered can you add them to this thread?

I will be having a look at the Skoda Insurance 7 day policy carefully - surely they'll cover it?

The only mention of glass on my 7 day policy is "Glass £50 excess", no mention whether it is windscreen, window or roof glass.

Hi

Just checked my Zurich motor policy for the Roomster 3 and glass replacement is covered for windscreen and sunroof without loss of no claims bonus

This I'd expect to be correct for a majority of insurers.

The roof will be fricking expensive to replace, and unlikely to be stocked by an autoglass or similar - IF this is something they can do. Sounds like they cant without pulling the car to bits!

Where do you get that from? It seems to be mounted the same way as a windscreen, and is probably laminated in the same way, and removing/fitting headlining is no big deal, so shouldn't be difficult to replace, though the glass may be pricey...

I know that there are dealers on here (Allams spring to mind!) perhaps they could clarify, otherwise we will continue to have unfounded scare stories...

Your right PM it is mounted the same way as a windscreen, but im a Master tech for a Skoda dealer and i fitted one of these glass roofs and the warranty time for it was 470 TU so i cant seen RAC or whoever wanting to fit one under windscreen terms and conditions bearing in mind it takes just less than an hour to do your average windscreen.:)

Whats 470 TU in English?! :)

Autoglass have never had to remove anything to swap a windscreen on anything I've driven.

Even a side window is only minor trim/doorcard , and usually down well within an hour,

Hi

If your insurance policy covers replacement of glass then I dont think it matters who does the job or how long it takes. Dont know what 470 TU means but it sounds like a long time.

Sorry 470 TU is 4.7 hours

Thanks for clarifying, chaps!

Mine has a panoramic roof, and has been up on drive on wheel ramps and been jacked up using the jack in spare wheel well to do my own wheel rotation and adjust my front ARB. It's done just over 20K now, has 40mm lower Eibach springs, Neuspeed RARB and Whiteline FARB which does make the car stiffer and the roof (so far) has been fine

I have some plans to go the same way with our 2 month old Scout, as what you have done with yours. Could you post some pics, I would be very interested in seeing how the lowering looks. Also if you are using 17" or 18" rims, are there any rubbing issues?

Privilege insurance say:

What is covered

We will pay to:

• Replace or repair broken glass in the windscreen, sunroof

or windows of your car, and repair any scratching to the

bodywork caused by the broken glass, as long as there

has not been any other loss or damage to your car; or

• Replace the roof and rear windscreen assembly together

if your car is fitted with a folding roof and it is more

cost-effective than replacing the glass alone.

Claims under this section will not affect your no

claim discount.

Runs off to look at his Priviledge Documents

I'd question if a panoramic roof is classed as a sunroof. technically a sunroof can open, and isnt as big.

As with any insurance, unless it specifically mentions 'fixed glass roof' of you have it in writing, dont assume anything. Insurance firms are good at wriggling out of claims.

Hi

Skoda describe it as a panoramic sunroof as opposed to a panoramic roof :)

Edited by Zaphood

Well it is a roof which lets the sun in... so its a sunroof! :)
