Window condensation...is there a worse car than a fabia?

Featured Replies

My Porsche leaks so bad I'm considering drilling some holes in the floor to let the rainwater that leaks in drain out through the floor.

I guess that makes it a "filter"

Lots of cars had holes in the floor pans back then and filled by rubber bungs, I guess this was reason.

Seeing as you have mentioned EOS, a guy at work choose a Megane CC over the EOS, but he gets lots of water leaks from the roof panel seals. Main dealer got annoyed with him and just said that Renault did not intend the roof to be opened very often, so, after he had decided to not open it again, preferably before the rainy season, just to come back in and they would seal it up with RTV! This they would repeat until the warranty had expired - this was after they had replaced all the seals when the car was 6 months old and adjusted the roof mechanism - and left oily black boot and handprints all over the seats and car trim. He just had to give them a miss after that as his car was being systematically destroyed by the dealer - who was converting to a Pug franchise, although the next nearest Renault dealer was already known to be even worse and proved so by destroying a front hub by cross threading a couple of wheel bolts while replacing some brake parts. Luckily his warranty has now expired so he is left to work out how to solve the uneven (side to side) rear tyre from new "typical of this model and not a problem" and run this car until he can afford to dump it or find somewhere to take it in as part exchange for a reasonable deal.

I hope that you were not being serious as these holes are used for a few things like indexing on assembly jigs and to speed up draining of cleaning and coating products.

Beetles were an exception, as were early Mercs. they were extremely well engineered. On the other hand I can remember the Ford 100E (my first car) with panel gaps off about 1/2" and badly fitting rubbers, had to wear a scarf to protect my neck from draughts.

Well my Ford 109E had a very bad habit of letting its floor plugs jump out to the inside if you drove over deep puddles!

My Dad has a 99 plate escort estate.... thats the worst by far...

with the windows demisted.. and demisters on full.. it manages to cloud up whilst driving... bizzare and indeed dangerous!

Condensation is not only a Fabia problem. I've had many a different motor over the years and and they have all been affected to some degree. Most newer cars will suffer from this as they have an almost airtight cabin, fit and finish is far superior to cars 20years ago. An added aggravation is most cars having air conditioning which not only cool the cabin in the summer but also warm the cabin in winter. In both cases the aircon dehumidifies the cabin air, so when opening a door and turning off the ignition cool damp air rushes into the cabin and condenses into mist on the windows. Locking the car with windows shut keeps the moist air in the cabin. One cure I have found is to turn off the aircon and turn the temperature control to a cooler setting 5mins. before you reach your destination or if you are garaging the car just leave a window open when car is parked. Changing the pollen filter will have next to no effect but water leaking into a cabin and pooling in the footwells will dramatically increase the misting off the windows.

I don't agree, we had problems with the car misting and freezing up, it was such a problem, but I removed the pollen filter, and not had the problem since

And on BMC's for letting out the water that came in through all the leaks in window seals etc ----shades of Top gear's BMC water race :rofl:

On a more serious note - I've got horendous condensation -suspect that my pollen filter needs changing ,but not in this weather - however found a good temporary measure - Vileda sponge cloths - dry them out in the house and leave on the dash -they soak up all the moisture inside the car .

My 2001 fabia gets really bad condensation. every time i start it up in the morning, it takes a wiping on the inside or alternatively a good 5-10 minutes heating before its driveable. John (my work colleague), who i drop home on my way past every day, regularly comments that out of all the cars in the car park, its only ever mine that steams up.

I tried all the quick fixes suggested in this thread, but i still get really bad condensation. it snowed about a week back and left the inside of the screens iced up.

Its not a real biggy, it just means i have to get up slightly earlier to allow for desteaming time. I havent tried the pollen filter yet, and i cant get any vileda thingies, so i dont know whats next.

My wife's first MK3 Fiesta had this problem, I traced it to water getting in around the rear window glass. I resealed it every year, then read about Ford having a problem with the size/profile of the rear window seal - sure enough if you examined the rear glass its seal was trying to escape - so I bought a new seal and got Autoglass to fit it in - problem solved.

Vileda - got mine from Sainsburys -pack of three ,pink/yellow/red ,about 5mm thick , square, made of sponge, advertised as soaking in 10 times water ,about half as big again as a CD - got mine with idea of mopping off moisture ,but since I got it ,(keep one on radiator in house and swap it for one in car) found that it gets damp in car and windows are constantly clear . So far three or four days sitting on dash ,never had to use it -it sits there gulping down the moisture .(Probably made of same material as Fabia door seals :rolleyes:)
