Seat Belt Warning Light/Alarm..

Featured Replies

When I got my Fabia 1.9TDI (Elegance), the brochure said it had a seat-belt warning system, i.e. alerting the driver via a light and tone if the seat-belt wasn't fastened and the driver starts to pull away. When I mentioned this to the crappy people at Claybank Skoda (I hate those guys by the way) he said, "oh, they've took it off for this year.." - which is/was a bit of a cop-out. However, would they really have took it off a 52-reg production model? As I have paid expecting for it to be there - is it likely it's just not activated? Can things like this be turned off on the on-board computer sneakily by Skoda service centres? I know this is long-after the event, however, it's just something that's been on my mind - does anyone know of any checks that I can do?

My old Y reg TDi Elegance had a seat belt light & alarm that went 'ping' aka aircraft seat belt sound for about 2 seconds if you started the engine without first clunk/clicking the driver's seat belt (it was not activated on any other seat in the car). My 04 vRS, and so I assume other later models than the Y, does not have this.

Note that bizarrely this 'ping' sound overode the indicator click-click sound and any other alarm noise (such as door or boot open) as you drove off, so I assume that they revised all this warning lark and removed the seat-belt warning - eg you don't have to wear it if reversing but might like to know there's a door open or the brakes have failed etc!

Perhaps it can be enabled - someone with some more knowledge of the VAG-COM system might let you know...

I believe that it only made a brief appearance and disappeared in the 2002 cars. Mine has it and I'd quite happily live without the 6 pings everytime I start the car without my seat belt on ;)

Funilly enough my car has the seatbelt warning light but doesn't ping. It's one of the last 2001 build year cars.
