Rubber scraping noise from the rear

Featured Replies

Over the last couple of months I have noticed a noise at the rear of my 54 VRS. It sounds like it is rubber scraping. It seems to happen more when the car wallows eg over smoother speed bumps and dips in the road, rather than hitting pot holes etc.

It's been in to a Skoda dealer who said it was boot struts, these were replaced but didn't cure it and the noise seems to be getting worse with time.

Could it be the tops of the struts or some sort of bushes at the rear, or does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I've just seen confused_cheese's post:rolleyes: and that seems to be the same problem I get.

Is new bushes the only way to stop this permanently?

It may sound daft but make sure its not your drivers seat first

Oh that's been squeaking since I got it.

This is a much more deep seated creaking/scrapping noise, but thanks for the idea:)

Is it DEFINITELY the rear? I only ask 'cos yours would be due a new set of console (front) bushes right about now...

Yep, it is most definitely the back, and getting worse by the day.

It's booked into the dealers again for tomorrow for them to take a look.

The only other thing I'd suggest before you take it to the stealers is to fold down each of the rear seat backs, and then put them back up again with a good slam. Think it might be something to do with the switch for warning that the seats are down, but whatever it is, I get a squeaky/scrapy noise if I put the seats down and don't use enough force when I put them back up again. It's more of a constant noise, I miust admit, but it won't cost anything to check!

Yep tried that last night but to no avail.

It needed to go to the dealers for some warranty work, namely my CD multichanger fitted back in after being away for repairs for over 2 months amongst many other issues.
