What else while fitting KONI FSD?

Featured Replies

I have a vRS which has run 38K kms. In India the vRS is sold with 16" wheels. Car is completely stock and I am having 4 KONI FSDs fitted (Koni part no. 2100-4019). Is there anything else that I should have changed at the same time? My stock suspension was not giving any problems, just read a lot about how good the KONI FSDs are and hence the change. Thanks.

suggest you do it all at once and get the matching Eibach springs. Saves you going back in again and it's a combo that works extremely well.

Get the bump stops cut down while you're at it (do a search - there are a few tips on that on here). Get some new ones and cut/glue them as needed and hand them ready to go in to your mechanic.

im halfway through this process at the moment, i would also ger H&R springs, possibly poly bushes all round while you have the suspension apart ( probably dont actually need them but should tighten up the feel of the car a bit), Top mounts and bearings (about £30 from GSF, although i dont know if they deliver to india)

i actually had a thread with all of this info in with part numbers etc, if you do a search for "ap coilovers" and then look for a thread started by me, it should all be in there, thanks to bodge for all the part numbers:thumbup:

if its a VRS i believe the eibach springs are not the best option because aparantly they are made for mark 4 golfs, which have a different weight over the rear axel

Been down this route in the past, and Eibach do not make springs for the Octy vRS, and as Mark has stated they are for the Golf, and, as such, are the wrong poundage for the Octy vRS.

Yes as gerry said , but then may be worth doing the rear ARB too

Jabba put Eibach's on my VRS :(, that said they seem to be fine.

Go onto the Eibach site and see if you can find a spring fitment for a MK1 Octy vRS.

I even phoned them and they said not to fit them as the poundage is totally wrong for the Octy vRS.

Sarah will also confirm this.

I was also told by another company that they would be alright, so fitted them with OEM dampers and rubbish handing, so tried the Eibach with Koni FSD's, and the car handled like a pregnant camel with tooth ache, in the wet it would 360 on every roundabout, so at that point I phoned Eibach and received the answer as above, so went to KW3's and never looked back.

Not saying your wrong because your not, im simply saying when i got jabba to fit lowering springs they fitted ebach's, I have FSD's and my car handles just perfectly, maybe your driving style is too eratic i dunno..

Erratic....Moi ?????...LOL

I think you will find that ColinD had the same combination on his old white one, and described the handling as lively.

Maybe your driving style is..."Miss Daisey"....LOL

I think its all about we all want our cars to handle, and as we are all different, there will never be total agreement, my main concern was that as Eibach do not make a specific spring for the MK1 Octy vRS, and even told me "NOT" to fit them, then there must be a valid reason for their comments.

I agree, I even had it out with Jabba but they said they fit blah blah what can I do?, Since that experince I relise Jabba talk utter crap IE 240BHP cars on standard turbos and Ebach's are fine blah blah.

However, I think the reason mine handles very well is that their is not a single standard speck part on the suspension, I will swap out to H&R springs or maybe get KW's but for now I dont know.

Point is dont fit Ebach to your cars because they dont make any for the Octy no matter what Jabba tell you.

and I drive like im trained to in the Paratroopers.

surely there is something that could be done about it? if a company is advertising and fitting items to a car which are clearly not intended for that car? Ender, maybe try pushing jabba to swap them for H&R springs

I have to agree also with Gerry and had a few worrying moments with the FSD's fitted with Eibachs and did not ever trust what the car was going to do with them. When changed to H&R springs, boy what a difference. I had all the suspension parts changed as per spec as well. Only changed the FSD's as I wanted more adjustment, but I rate them with H&R springs as you will find is now a common set up with a lot of users on here.

Being ex Guards Independent and "G" sqn 22, what are you trying to say about our driving style??.....LOL

Just wanted to thank everyone for the advise. I have fitted only the Koni FSDs and am enjoying them. My car feels more taut then before, in city driving. Haven't had the time to do any spirited turns yet. Cheers. Bomi.

Glad you are enjoying them..........
