What's this noise......?

Ssshcchchhehchhhhhh (technical i know )

Morning All

Short late night trip through town centre last night prompted me to turn some awful tripe off Radio 1 and travel listening to the dulset tones of the VRs TDi lump up front.

However when off power and coasting v slowly to a stop for traffic lights my car was making a the above noise.

It reminded me of the grinding rear brakes heard on a mates Furby but i wasn't on the brakes! No input from myself on the pedal in neutral dn just rolling down a slight slope!

No change to pitch or consistency when cluth engaged or with my foot on the pedal. Noise stopped when i reached a halt

Noise also stopped with a few revs while coasting and i couldn't hear it when i pulled away again (although engine noise may have covered it up )

Hugely informative list of symptoms i know but anyone got any clues?

Thanx in advance

Cliff

a piece of grit trapped between disc and caliper or disc shield?

Yes, good bet it's a stone between the disc rotor and splash shield. Also check the splash shield isn't too close to the disc. Can happen if you listen to radio one a lot

It may even have been the car breathing a sigh of relief when you changed station
