If I do remap my ECU and say bye-bye to my warranty, what REAL difference will I see?

Featured Replies

Well, seems I opened up a can of worms with my question about remaps...sorry for my naievity but I am new to this game...

I think I have decided to go ahead and get (when I have the money saved up!!) a remap for my Octavia vRS, which at the moment is completely standard. Say I go ahead with it, what performance difference will I notice? I know I get more horses, but what sort of acceleration increase, fuel economy etc etc... Also, do you have to remap after doing other mods or can you do so before, as 'in for a penny' I may get a cold air induction kit and dump valve(as quiet as possible).

I'm sure some of you out there have plenty of experience in these fields to offer me some advice?!?!

REAL difference in speed? :D

but speak to your dealer first I would.

The performance increase will be noticed mainly by the patented 'butt dyno' :D Try not to get too hung up with the numbers, it's what it feels like which is important. Most members will probably tell you that your MPG will improve, this however is cancelled out by your increased tendancy to boot it :D

It's probably a good idea to get the other mods done first especially if you're considering Jabba for the re-map. In fact I believe this is what they recommend. More than anything else they're a bit remote if you need the map fine tuning. I went for Revo and got a fair bit done before they put their code on. Any fine tuning was done with the SPS3 unit.

Happy hunting!

(PS I think most tuners will recommend changing the DV)

Thanks guys, thought as much, but nice to hear it from someone else if you know what I mean. Just a case of saving the pennies now.

Has anyone explained the 'slippery slope' to Mr. ocstevia? :D

It'll be much faster!

Simple as!

but speak to your dealer first I would.

Good advice Yoda :)

Things you will notice:

Trees go by much quicker

Penalty point count tends to increase

Insurance companies tend to hang up when you mention "modification"

A tendancy to drive with a clenched teeth smile

Tyre longevity diminishes

One mod leads to many

.... but if you get it done right, and resist the temptation to go on a "Gumball" rally.... the "butt dyno" will be very happy!

It sounds to me like my 'butt dyno' will be needing a 'dump' valve of it's own if I go ahead, better carry some spares for my passengers too, unless I chose to chuck them out as excess ballast !!

Think my mind is made up now, hey ho, you only live once.

Anyone had any good quotes for insurance after mods?? I am with Direct Line of all people at the mo, as they were the best quote 6 months ago. I was well surprised, most said 'come back when you're thirty'. Well, I'm thirty now, so maybe I'll go knocking on their doors for quotes again. Now that i've got a computer at last (about time I caught up with the rest of the world), I think there are extra discounts available for on-line quotes and policies..

Cheers folks.

Deffinately quicker. the extra touque is nice too.

Be warned though...I'm now only getting about 200 miles for every

Search the forums for "Liverpool Victoria" and/or "Frizzell". They are noted for being mod-friendly (and are usually pretty competitive in price).

Don't bother with the online quotes - most of them specifically exclude modified cars. You need to phone the insurers to get the best quotes.
