I seem to remember that Skoda changed their advice for cam belt change interval - Mine's a 52 plate TDi 110. Belt was changed at 80k, and the service schedule says 80k to change it. I'm sure I've read that it should be done at 60k though. I'm currently at 135k miles so only have a few weeks before it'll need doing if it is 60k interval.

Is it just the petrol models that have changed?

I have a 1.9tdi(110) 52 reg & the skoda dealer showed a letter from skoda uk recommending that cambelts are changed every four years , regardless of milage.Mine was changed at 42000 .

my pd130 was first changed at 80k but I'm going to get mine done at 120k then keep it at 60k intervals as I'm sure thats what SUK now recommend

Not as far as I know but I could be wrong. I think the vrs is 4 years or 60k and thats what's been recommended for my tdi, likewise the time limit will never apply to my tdi mine will always be done on milage.

My 2001 110TDi is done every 60k.

I had my cambelt/waterpump/aux belt done at 60k (110bhp tdi 52 reg), was told that the next change was 140k (80k)

I would go for every 60k. I changed my water pump at 120k, and would for the price of it change at ever cambelt change, even though mine looked fine and felt fine.

At the difference between 60 and 80k, for most car owners that may just mean one more cambelt change, which has got to be worth spending the money on rather than having the belt break and then being left with a worthless car! I changed the belt myself at 120k, and will probably do it again at 180k, and after that I might flog the car, although if it is still running it would be nice to see it to 200k, or even 250k....

Yes, I think there is. 130 is a PD engine (where the camshaft drives very high pressure injectors), whilst 110 has a separate old-fashioned injector pump. The PD engines put more strain on their cambelt, so I'm pretty sure that when mine was made (2002) they were saying 60000 miles for PDs (ie 100 or 130), or 80000 miles for non-PD (ie 90 or 110).

Either way they then added the "or 4 years" a couple of years later.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but do you need to change the water pump at the same time as the cam belt?

I called my local dealer for a price and they recommended that I did.

Also I take it that it is best to buy and replace the kit other than just the belt.

You don't need to but it is advisable.

When the belt is changed it would be false economy not to change the water pump at the same time. It is always best use a complete kit as the other parts can wear out or break and that could damage the belt.
