Bye Bye Octavia

Featured Replies

Ahh well now in the wifes' bad books as the Octy as just been driven off the drive.. hope she serves you well ***** :P You got an absolute bargain

So what next?? After taking such a whack I have decided to set a max budget of £15k after discount of at least 3K to try and minimalise depreciation. The new car must be smaller and more economical but still be interesting to drive.

So far Considering:

Alfa Mito 155

MX 5 2.0i

Mini Cooper s (no discount but pretty bullit proof residuals)

Any thoughts folks??

1 series beemer?? You wont get a new one for that money but some cracking deals on "BMW approved" models.

Fantastic "drivers" car if your not too bothered about space.

118d is no dearer to run, service or insure than my last octy.

Did consider a 135i coupe a while back, but swmbo is less than impressed.

why buy new? surely after just taking a big hit yourself you can see the attractivness in buying newarly new?

Mazda are currently offering aound 3.5 - 4k off the mx5 which makes a used buy seem expensive in a lot of cases. The Mito is a brand new model but I may be able to get the same sort of discount through family discount. The mini would be 6 month old ish.

Willing to look at others but swmbo is anty BMW atm knocking back both 1'er and Z4 and as it would be 'her' car.... Considered Porsche boxter but would be looking at 5 yr old ++ in budget and I would prefer something newer with warranty and no MOT to worry about.

I think you are right the new owner did get a good deal and I am very sure he will enjoy it.

We drove the Mito TDi on Saturday and I thought the engine better than that in SWMBO's LEON 140 TDi. Not sure I'd want to buy one though.

The Mito is, however, a minger.

stu the mito was that the small red car???

Despite Alfa claiming otherwise, you'd have to be wary about the mito residuals with the alfa track record.

It wasn't a bad place to be, and I was thinking if I could get the sort of discount mentioned (£4k), then with it being a new model if I came to sell in 12 months I possibly won't lose that much. As for looks, it as grown on me considerably since I first clapped eyes on it.

Atm the MX5 is favourite, but with a facelift due in a couple of months the savings on new atm may not offset depreciation by the same margin.. Oh well you can only spend what you haven't got

Yes the Mito was the little red one.

ah ha that one :( didnt like it thought it was like a little pug diesel.

your wife doesn't want a BMW

new MX5 all day long out of the selection given

Fiat Multipla?

I would strongly urge you to test the MX 5. Sadly mine is not for sale ;):D

It's a lot more practical than people give it credit for. I can easlily fit a weeks shopping in the boot, or a suitcase, laptop, and backpack when Mother comes to visit.

It's by far the best handling car I have ever owned.

I'm not sure if I should raise my head above the parapet in here or not!

As said already, MX-5 all the way I reckon - especially for a roadtrip

Well the MITO sounds to be going down well  Still a contender 'till I get a price though. :)

MX5 all the way,

If you want one with bullet proof residuals, just look down my drive.....;)

Couple of guys on Saturday waited around until the MiTo 155bhp came back and they seemed to like it very much both Tom and Chris rated it very highly.

How far is the bus stop, can she get a bus to work ;)

I'd look at buying something 1 year old as regardless of the asking prices you can pay under 50% of new car price on most 1 year olds at the moment if you know where to look.

Does your fine lady want the cooper S or would a cooper D be ok? Only reason I ask is a lot cheaper to insure and run than the cooper S, and while not as fast, it would offset the loss on the Octy II.

Andy, you might feel a bit cramped in an MX5 :)

The mk3 is a little cosy but not too bad at all, Len.
